Taking the pi55, or what?

Today, I went shopping to a local aquatic shop (Maidenhead Aquatics) and was just browsing, wearing an aged 'Le Tour de France' T-shirt.
An assistant nearby said to me "Are you riding that?" referring to the T-shirt.
Taking the pi55 or what! At 53 years, 92Kg, I don't think so, even in my wildest dreams.
Is it just me, or does anyone else find that in the minds of the masses if you might ride a bike, you must be doing the Tour de France?

There's no such thing as too old.

Maybe she thought you were Lance Armstrong. He ain't far off 53.0

Did you not tell her you are spending your prize money from the win ?0

I watched a lot of the Tour at my parents place when it was on. Dad pipes up with 'Do you not fancy doing that one day?. You might be in with a shout?' Like most of the general public he just doesn't quite understand the concept of a professional cyclist and the dedication and fitness necessary. He seems to think that anyone capable of cycling 60 miles or so just needs to turn up on the start line and give it a shot.
Yeh Dad, you've got a driving licence, how do you fancy having a bash at the F1 championship next year? :roll:0 -
Sounds like she might have been coming onto you mate!!0

A guy at work asked me if I rode the TDF! I thanked him for the compliment but he plays amateur footy and told him that asking that is a bit like me asking him if he occasionally does a game for Arsenal or Chelsea or whoever...Do not write below this line. Office use only.0

Take it as a compliment. I'm never asked if I played for Chelsea when I'm in my colours

Probably not taking the wee-wee...
People who don't know about pro cycling think that it is pretty much a pitch-up-and-compete event, most don't even know that you'd need to be in a TEAM!
It doesn't help to get frustrated as people then think cyclists are arrogant high strung folk!FCN 10 -

Although anyone sufficiently exposed to ITV4 last month should know Armstrong's age off by heart now.....
Speaking of ITV4 - Tour of Ireland highlights coverage starts 8pm this Saturday, for those not already in the know.

It's the word "Tour" that does it.
Many people think it's a sort of London-Brighton with prizes.0 -
You're too harsh, leave the poor assistant alone.0

Interesting to note how people have assumed the assistant is female...0
