The words "80's" & "fashion" should never under any circumstance been seen or written in the same sentence, anyone who was alive & remembers the 80's knows this.

Of course tyres are pointless, if they had points they would not be round and would be rubbish on wheels!

first thing to do in all honestty is pick a good tyre for all the right reasons then see if they are done in a colour that suits. folk who buy coloured tyres often buy one which they think look good even though there are better performing alternatives.

Very true SheepsTeeth, but if I'm going to be slipping six ways to Sunday, go 4rse over t1t in the mud like spastic Womble... I want to look good.

If Ii can only get day glow green tyres in 1.0 slicks then I will buy them and use them for a spot of XC. Health and Safety be Dammed!

I bought some Panaracer FireXCPro tyres for my Kona. The LBS had them in red or blue. As the Kona is blue the choice was obvious (blue...)
They are great tyres, they do work well, but the colour coding I inherited by default still makes me cringe from time to time

FireXCPro's are excellent tyres believe you me. It's just I thought the blue sidewalls on my blue Kona was a little over the top..
Fashion aside, I will replace them with exactly the same tyres when they're worn..

Why do those jump bikes only have a rear brake?
Wouldn't it make more sense to have only a front? Then you could tailwhip forever without getting tangled up, and would actually still have the brake that works.

But when you cream in, the front gets trashed more often. So a bent disc could stop the fun sooner...

And you can smash on the rear brake in panic-mode, and not come off so easily. Also, is useful for stopping the rear wheel, so you can do whips easier. So now you've got the rear, you don't need the front, as really, it's only extra weight anyways....

I heard that the process they use to dye the tyres actually makes them weaker, so you end up with more punctures, less durable tyres, etc. etc.

This may just be a rumour, but the reason I've never looked to buy new tyres is because if you actually ride your bike, they will get dirty very quickly and look rubbish.

The front brake is the one that stops you quickest, not the back. Having a hose only go to the front would mean you could whip over and over and over without having to untwist the bars wach time, you'd just run the cable through the head tube.

I reckon it's more of a fashion thing - I can't believe there's that many dirt jumpers who have no idea how to use their brakes.
  • I like them. Have a set on my bike. MUCH more hardwearing than the Ralphs I had before, but nowhere near as light.

My red panaracers looked grand on the Commencal but I have had to transfer them to the Boardman and they look out of place, needs must though. Will buy black Panaracers when I have the moolah.
