Can't remember the details of it, but he had to pay about £150. They confiscated his bike until he paid up.
And I call bullshit. If he was in a car, the fine would only be £60 IIRC. Other points about speeding only applying to motor vehicles and bicycles not being fitted with speedos are equally valid.

He had to pay more for wasting police time. He didn't pay up immediately, had a massive argument, tried to escape, etc.

He did have a speedo though - a Garmin actually. I'm not defending what he did, it was a tiny residential road with speed bumps. You should know when you're going too fast down one of those.

I love how the more you get challenged the more ludicrous you make the argument. He tried to escape. Classic.

He's a bike messenger - he was trying to get to his destination innit! It's the very nature of the beast.
  • So does riding in 39x15 with a cadence of 180 constitute furious peddling?
No-one wanted to eat Patagonia Toothfish so they renamed it Chilean Sea Bass and now it's in danger of over fishing!

...okay, has anyone (or their friend) ever been flashed by a speed camera?
(perhaps, anyone other than Bhima  )

Yeah, there was one which flashed us in a dark alley one night. Wasn't very pleasant. It got done for indecent exposure thankfully.

Apparently if you cover a football in foil and give it a good kick past a speed camera, you can get it to flash.

Having typed that, it sounds like a far out story reminiscent of other forum members...

...hmmm, perhaps if you covered your helmet with tin foil...? :D
...only that would also mean trying to explain to the nice officer why you looked like a cyberman...

  • I rode a charity cycle event earlier in the year, and we set off the speed camera on the road down into Eastbourne. It only flashed at grouped cyclists, and one guy who's 6foot 5 and built like a brick outhouse!!! :D
I guess you can't be done for speeding as they won't know who you are.
