Upgrade Sora STI's to Campy Xenon's, worth it?

My son has found some xenons for around £50 that seem like a good deal. Only problem is that he won't have any cash left for a while. The Sora's are also 8spd so how much of a hassle would that be?

Shimano to Campag by changing just the shifters won't work.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

I swapped 8spd sora shifters for 10spd campag shifters and it works fine.

Its not that he doesnt like shimano and wants campag stuff, he just doesnt like only having thumbshifters and prefers levers[/quote]

I think I'd stick with Sora.
As much as I love Campag stuff Xenon should go under a different name.
Its not the strongest and I've seen a few fail.
    Brake levers are plastic too.
I'd save a little longer and get Veloce or higher. They do sometimes appear on Ebay quite cheaply.

I ran sora for years - not the nicest feeling but they do last suprisingly well. I'd stick with them myself.

You realise the campag is thumb shifters too? Just the tab behind the lever does the opposite shift instead of the whole brake leaver with Sora.

Get some 9-speed Tiagra shifters. If rear mech is set up correctly (limit screws) it won't try to over-shift, last click will just be redundant.

Alternatively, 2nd-hand 9 speed 105 shifters off eBay.

Shimano ST-R500 shifters are 8-speed STIs but just like 105 (rare 2nd hand, expensive new though).

All these options give the upshift lever behind the brake/downshift lever - unlike Sora thumb tab, and much easier to use.

Campag shifters to Shimano mechs may work but I wouldn't bet on it...
