Currently running Tiagra 50/34 & 9speed 12/25 cass +Tiagra STI levers.
Want to change to touring setup:
Deore LX triple 42/32/22 & Deore LX rear mech 13/34 cass.
I understand the STI's will handle a triple.
My question is do I need to change the existing front mech?
Thank you again for your help.

Yes - a triple mech cage is deeper, otherwise the chain will rub against it in the small chainringMake mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

I have just had the same issue for my now winter/audax bike. The answer for me was yes as firstly the bottom bracket would not take a triple, will yours?, and the shifters and front mech were set up for a double. Got over this by just changing the rear cassette and rear mech from a 11/23 to a 11/34 MTB cassette. Otherwise it would have cost a bomb for new shifters, mech, bottom bracket….
If the STI will handle a triple it may not be so bad. Also I did not really want to drop from a double to a triple, personal preference.*Insert something witty or profound here*0 -
Thanks again. Can I ask what MTB cassette & rear mech you finally went for? Cheers, J (West Cork, IRL)0

It's a Shimano XT M770 9 speed cassette and the same for the rear mech. Oh and a new chain. Cost me £70 for both parts from my LBS, which is about £50 less then buying them online. Hope this helps.*Insert something witty or profound here*0
