C5 are now showing the original Taking Pelham 123 with Robert Shaw and Walter Mathau - class and then after this they show another classic North by Northwest, one of my favourite films. Last night was the Shawskank Redemption on Filmson4 although like everyone I've seen it 54,312 times. I watched the first 20 mins and the last. So in view of the crap weather will stay in and watch these then jump on the turbo trainer after.

Pfft, fuddy duddys. Why watch the old version when you can watch a remake? It's the same film, only with MORE EXPLOSIONS and HAMMIER ACTING and HOT GIRLS, PROBABLY IN LEATHER and JOHN TRAVOLTA'S SUBLIMINAL MESSAGES ABOUT XENU and MORE EXPLOSIONS.

I mean, who wouldn't pay 8 quid to sit in a crowded cinema full of people talking loudly to see that?

Nooooo.....!!! The oldie originals are the best. I wouldn't sit with rif raff scum in a cinema when I can sit in the comfort of my own living room. Must get back to NNW.

I saw the new one last night and am gutted i missed the old version
New one is pretty good though if you like all action thrillers.
John Travolta is awsome in this , really good phsyco.

  • I watched the remake last week and while the special effects/stunts are very good and Travolta takes a great part as does Densil Washington, I think the original edges it 'cos of the humour and Matthau is great.

  • Totally gutted that I missed Taking Pelham 123 - was looking to see if it was on film flex the other day (no!) or the local video shop (no again).
Pain is only weakness leaving the body
  • I purchased the original from Amazon for £2.79 and watched it last night with my lad. He was in "tucks" as was I, at the humour in it. Definately better than the re-make.

  • Trying now to think of an example of where the remake was better than the original (original film -- adaptations of radio/theatre plays & musicals don't count).

North By Northwest perhaps, though The 39 Steps isn't bad...
