Pedals - not SPDs ?

Hi there,

i've got a Specialized Allez I use to commute, and i want to replace the pedals as i've finally worn the bearings out. However, I'm not sure I want to go for SPDs as I use my bike to go to places, and don't really want to have to buy special shoes and then carry an additional set of footwear with me. At the minute I use toe clips, which I don't much like either, but they are better than wet pedals.

Given this, does anyone have any recommendations for pedals ? Or am I being daft with the shoes ? I probably do about 150-200miles a week.

thanks,
Ian

or maybe mtb cycling shoes http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=18195
apart from that spd is a good starter altho you could go better with speedplay zero pedals and a pair of road shoes, and cleat covers.

there are plenty of mtb spud shoes that look like regular trainers - see Spesh Taho, Sonoma, etc.

For journeys more than 1 mile I can't recommend anything other than spuds and mtb shoes.

Cheers for that chaps - I was really thinking more of the ride home followed by going to the gym - are SPDs suitable for running etc ?

    ^^ agreed - completely!

That said, you aren't going to be able to run in them no, but at least be able to walk about no probs. I have the specialized sonoma shoes for touring / commuting / going to shops etc (as opposed to 'road' shoes which I use when I don't need to walk (cos you CAN'T walk in those!))

toe clips are just plain dangerous and (IMO) you won't look back after using SPDs

Nooo, very stiff soles fine for popping into tesco or the pub but not for running.

If you want pedals where you can use SPD shoes one day, then trainers the next have a look for either shimano m324, or shimano a530 double sided

thanks for the input - i'm going to try a pair of the spds with a cage around - might be a mtb pair to be honest.
