Does anyone have a clue about how you can convert the Marin B-17 from Vee brakes to discs and what type of mount is used?

If it's the old full suspension B-17, then it should have IS mounts for brakes on the swingarm.

Marin used to do a downhill bike called the B17, and a jump hardtail called the Quake.
At some point along the line, someone who was obviously smoking something strong, decided to swap the two over, so the Quake became their DH/freeride full suss bike, and the B17 became a hardtail jump / trail bike.

So, which one do you have? The DH B-17 will look similar to my "Old Faithful" in my sig.

thanks for the repleys, the frame I think is the 2000 model B-17 full sus with the square tubing on the swing arm, there is no IS mounts on the rear left, but there are 2 holes that are around 503mm apart that take a 10mm bolts which are intended to take some kind of adaptor, Its currently in the LBS so i dont have a picture of it, but i will try and find a picture.

Hmm, try and get a picture. They definitely came with disc mounts. The only marin full-suss frames from those times that didn;t have disc mounts IIRC, were the XC oriented mount visions (although I could be mistaken)
My wolf ridge was a class below yours, and two years older, and that certainly came with IS mounts.

if they are 49mm apart they could be FS standard but the mounting bolts are 4mm.

but with your measurements given above anything is possible.

I'll try and get a pick of mine as well so you can compare - but it's at a mate's house at the moment. He's got the MTBing bug, and he's borrowing it to get his fitness up :D
I'll try and pop round tomorrow.

After a bit of looking on the net it turns out that the bike is actually a 1998 original Marin Full suspention, it came with Deore Vee Brakes as standard, but id you were to look at most MTB forums people seem to all have put discs on it....still looking for a picture though.

Hmm. If I remember correctly, if it came with V-brakes, then it didn't have disc mounts - and I doubt it was a B-17 originally. :(
I'm also nearly certain that the 1998 B-17 came with Manitou X-Vert triple clamp forks, not RSTs.

But time has clouded my memory somewhat.

the B-17 came with RST forks originally, after an entire night of looking i cant find anything that would show anyone a good example, I will get some pictures tomorrow, I only got the frame, so far its been built up, just need to get brakes on, hence the problem, Vee brakes would spoil otherwise a great bike,

aye, it is a great bike :D
Taken my wolf ridge on a DH holiday in Les Gets / Morzine / Chatel, and it id me proud!
here's a photo of it in DH guise, before I replaced the shock with a DHX5

Anyway, the best I can do you for now, until I get to my mate's place, is this close up of the disc mounts on mine, it's kinda hard to make out, but can you see any resemblance?

I used to own an old Marin Rift Zone that had the box section swing arm &
no disk mount. I bought a Hope braze on IS mount from my LBS & got a local company that specialised in aluminum welding to weld it on. I might have a photo of it somewhere

I found this PDF on the Marin website.
Don't know if it will help, it doesn't make much sense to me. But you may get some use out of it.

    EDIT:
It just dawned on me. I did snap a singarm in a big crash once, and had it replaced (for free :D ). I remember being asked something like, did I mind not getting the exact same swingarm.
I think they said I'd have to wait for an identical one, or I could have a newer model singarm next day. I went for the newer option. which is why I've got a black swingarm on mine, and not the daft mango orange that it was specced with.
However, the disc brake mounts did not change at all, my hope calliper just unbolted from one, straight onto the other, so th emounts must have been the same from 1998 to the year my replacement was from - at least.

Which makes that marin PDF all the more confusing.

I would say that that PDF explains a bit. If you were just looking to change calipers over.
