Any one up for this classic, on September 6th, organised by Darlington Council . It's 100 miler, a bit hilly but nothing like the magor sportives. The ride goes through some spectacular scenery and enty on the day is only six quid, and that includes a T shirt.

had a bit of a doo
11kg ! what have you done ? got a pair of carbon knees0 -
Done it loads of times in the past, and although it's not an absolute brute, it is a really stunning ride scenery wise. Probably one of my fave routes of all time. Aiming to be fit enough to ride it again in 2010.
Basic route for anyone wondering is Darlington - Richmond - Redmire - Askrigg - Hawes - Kirby Stephen - Brough - Middleton in Teesdale - Eggleston - Staindrop - Darlington0 -

Ouch, I hope you are recovering. Bet I still can't keep up with you!
Its now 12kg, and over the moon........carbon knees, now theres an idea. Do the UCI have rules on aspect ratio for such additions?
Take care.

I understand that carbon bones are allowed only if you break an existing one and it is not repairable, so using external carbon legs is definitly elegal. I was told that Wiggins has a carbon pelvis which saved him 2 kg.
I think this could get rather silly.0 -
Did it yesterday.
As has been said it is relatively easy for 75 miles of the 100, but that 25 (from approx 50 to 75) was pretty harsh.
Didn't see anyone riding fixed but did see quite a few hybrids & panniers.
Cheers to everyone that let me ride in their groups as I chased my mates who'd left Darlo before me. I managed to catch them 4 miles from the end of the ride.0 -
Also meant to say, hope the cyclist being put into the ambulance (round about here) is ok.
Nasty place to come off, we'd been doing 40+ mph just before that cattle grid.0 -
Sounds like I was just in front of you as the air ambulance hadn't arrived when I went past . My guess is the guy was caught out by the cattlegrid which put him totally wrong for the bend. Hope he's OK.
I had a ball, I got swept up with a big group of Richmond Cycle Club and Ferryhill Wheelers and we flew.0 -

You must have been way ahead of me, I got passed and dropped by the Richmond guys and by the time I got to the accident spot the helicopter was looking to land. As you say, I hope the guy is okay. I enjoyed the ride especially once the turn was made at the Moorcock.

I didn't see the Air Ambulance. When I went through I think there was three vehicles, Police, something else & a normal ambulance. Looked like the injured cyclist was being lifted into the back of the ambulance.
A guy I was speaking to after Eggleston said that when he went through there he was shouted at by the Police to slow down, which hadn't happened to me.
I wonder if there was more than one accident there.0 -
Broken hip unfortunately - airlifted to James Cook hospital. One of our riders spoke to him yesterday, he's remarkably cheery considering he's off the bike for at least 12 weeks!
The fast group were flying - I got swept along then dropped - it was 30+ heading into Kirby Stephen. 1st group were back in 4:51hrs!
Still, we beat our 6hr target so I'm happy0 -

Broken hip Not nice.
Not sure of my time but I Averaged 18 mph which is my fastest for this ride although I must admit it's also the first time I've stayed with a big group for so long. I think it's a case of that little bit extra fitness this year enabled me to stay with the group where as previously I've been dropped straight away.0
