Might want to fiddle with your poll, but I would choose elixir cr. Ones I'm using at the moment, and theyre great.

    Failing that, elixir R.

Why just Avids? I have the Juicy 7s and they are great but they aren't the only good brake out there. Actually compared to Shimano brakes changing pads is quite fiddly.

Formula oro k18 are also 150 on Merlin.
  • Id go for hope brakes every time !!

  • whoops , i did put the elixir on the poll but somehow theyve disapeared.(cant seem to edit the poll now)

They don't have to be avids really, but they are going cheap on merlin and i need some new ones asap.

I'd love another set of hopes (i have tech m4s on my full sus, and they rule) but they are waaaaay too much for a pair.

Basically i need to replace the MPHs on my hardtail giant as they are proper f&$£!d .
I use it mostly for commuting now but i still want semi-decent mid range brakes as I do still like to take the hardtail of road, occasionally.

I have juicy 7's now before i had shimano slx, the juicy 7's are definatly better but not by a lot.
  • I have the 2007Juicy 5s - the pads are a bit of a pain to change, but they are the easiest thing in the world to bleed. They're pretty light and they'll stop you just as well as anything else out there. So you could save yourself a bit of money and go for the 5s, or pay the extra for that knob thing the 7s have...

Elixirs - no brainer, pad swap is a doddle, and juicys will be obsolete in 12 mths time, the elixir 5 is outnow for entry level.

there is no noticeable difference in feel betwen the 5 and 7 in my experience so id be tempted to recommend the 5s (which i have owned) i had a very quick go on some elixirs which were nice enough but i like juicies.
