Argh you poor sod. Chuffing CCTV.
Make sure you go for a Dlock and cable next time round though, although there's little you can do to thwart the pro thieves - Fcuking Cnuts.- 2023 Vielo V+1

My friend was given a nice carbon bike with Cosmic Carbone wheels by his parents-in-law (who run a bike shop) and he just had it nicked - the thief came into the apartment block, cut through the thick frame of the bike stand and took just the one bike, ignoring other expensive bikes and several that weren't even locked. I bet it's because some toerag saw the wheels and targeted him.0

There seems to be a rash of thefts again. Summer and the economy have a lot to do with it, but also greedy people who wont question why a bike is extra cheap or the dodgy fella selling it.
Hope you get it back, though sadly its not likely. Have the Police been informed?0 -
Keep an eye on eBay0

oh man! well mate if you ever get the fker that nicked it i doubt there wont be a shortage of volunteers on here to wheelspin on their bollocks for ya. Hope ya was insured, not the point i know but it may help.0

+1 - if no one buys the stolen goods there wouldn't be a market for it!
I run a shop and we sometimes get people coming in trying to sell what I suspect are stolen goods, mobile phones/perfume to list a couple. I can't be polite to them and tell them to go away in no uncertain terms - complete tossers! I think drug issues are another big factor.
Wouldn't it be great to have an inbuilt self destruct bike, set to go off at 15mph or more. I would say a higher speed but doubt the plebs who nick stuff have the ability to cycle that fast - unless they're being chased of course!_________________________________________________

And Gumtree - shed loads of clearly nicked bikes on there for stupidly cheap prices.
Girlfriend and I had both ours nicked from the shed back in May. Replaced on insurance. First day she road her's into work, nicked again. Utter Cnuts!
Am just today considering how best to secure our shed against the b'stards. Have epoxied over the heads of all the screws so they can't unscrew the door like last time but wondering how best to secure bikes inside. Was looking at this http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Kryptonite_Stronghold_Surface_Ground_Anchor/5360009134 but not sure it's worth it when the floor is wood, not concrete. Any thoughts?0 -

If it's a timber shed floor I doubt that will work as a sufficient anchor point.
How about a shed alarm and a security light with PIR, get a baseball bat, a german shepherd or two and you're away.
Buy a baseball with your baseball bat, you can explain to the plod that you bought it as a sporting item rather than a weapon - then it's just explaining the 5 x 6 inch nails sticking through it ._________________________________________________

So sorry to hear about it I've had 3 bikes stolen and wheels taken. The police could hardly be bothered to listen let alone do anything about it. We even caught one delightful person at the station with 1bike, called the police and they were too busy, got the bike back though! Each time the bikes were taken 2were D locked with Kryp new york and cables and one cheap D lock.
The trouble is they are to easy to steal and sell. Even when it obvious they are stolen on the gum tree or ebay, the police don't do anything.
I suppose we can only hope Karma will get them!0 -

this is exactly the problem. ebay don't give a crap that stolen stuff is pedalled there, pardon the pun and the police don't care at all for the most part, but the moment one of us catches a thief in the midst of it and whacks them with something, they'll happily cart us in.

sorry to hear you had bike nicked, i had mine stolen in april and its horrible.
worst thing is if a thief wants a bike they will get it. Have you got a house alarm?? we have just linked our shed to the house alarm so if they try get in the alrm goes off straight away
also having some form of bat or stick to wack them with always helps0 -
Quick release brake pads might stop them  Infact I have removed my pads from my old bike when it was being serviced and I was unable to ride for a few weeks many years back. Oh how I would have laughed if some oik decided to try and ride it off.0

Bad times, sorry to hear that.
I hate that sinking feeling you get when it hits you. Happened twice to me before.
On the positive side it's a chance to get another steed. Are you eligible for Cycle2Work scheme? Highly recommend it.0 -
Sorry to hear about your theft. Must be gutted. Bike crime in London is up 75% in the lat year according to the bog standard - the comments at the end of the article are interesting as well http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23731158-details/Bike+thefts+soar+75+as+crime+gangs+move+in/article.do
The met approach appears to be to blame the victim or to tell us to use less expensive bikes - doubt they'd offer the same advice to drivers.
Many police forces say mark your bike yet most don't have the technology to read infrared markings - or can't be bothered. Gum Tree and Ebay could both easiliy insist that bikes must be advertised with the frame number in the heading - but that's not going to happen now is it...Pain is only weakness leaving the body0 -
I had two bikes on my patio dlocked together and chained to a metal waste pipe. B*****s cut through the chain and took both bikes. The police did not even turn up just gave me a crime number.
There is no longer a deterrant for thieves and the likes. They know they are not going to be caught unless they get caught selling them. We then had our car broken into and again the police did not bother to attend.
Shootings to good for them.0 -
Sympathies to those that had their bikes stolen, I've been there and had a borrowed bike stolen from the bike racks at university, I was really pissed off, it may have only been a relatively cheap bike, but it was MY MONEY that was used to replace it.
That said, I have to disagree with some of the posts 'blaming' the Police, if you leave a £500 bike unlocked in a wooden garden shed secured with a £5.00 padlock you need to ask yourself a question or two.
As a cop who attends house burglaries etc etc you would not believe the ammount of people who can't even give a good description of their own property. Bikes have serial numbers for a reason, note it down. Don't rely on speccing parts etc as we all know how easy it is to swap these round. Even some of the numpies I deal with can strip a bike down and change parts.
Get a shed alarm, our local nick had a crime prevention roadshow and was giving out ***FREE*** battery operated shed alarms, buy a ground anchor and run your 'D' lock through it.
Regarding the marking of the frames every operational cop in our force was given a uv light to read the invisible ink security markings.
If you are not happy with the service from the local plod - complain, we all have to respond to a new code of practice called 'The Policing pledge' It gives YOU the power to demand better service. http://direct.gov.uk/en/groups/dg_digit ... 175466.pdf
I hope no-one takes offence at my post however I see it from both sides, it is particularly frustrating to hear 'The Police Don't care, couldn't be arsed etc etc' however this is mostly not the case, I care as do most people I work with, however there is more and more put in our way to stop us from 'Knacking the Shite'.0 -

No offence taken on my part - and I should apologise to you for my broad brush critique of the police. I do of course realise that many if not most want to do a good job - but i do suspect that for many bike crime is a low priority for a variety of reasons.Pain is only weakness leaving the body0 -
my second bike was nicked day before yesterday. My father is using it at the moment as I have the Trek now. He cycles regularly to work.
Locked it up outside Saindburys in the morning (he works for them) came out in the evening to find it and the lock gone!
reported to the police, £250 quid worth of bike gone and unlikely to see it again. Serial numbers have been given to the police.
Officers don't run, it's undignified and panics the men0 -

maybe undo the stem and headset after each ride, the Quick releases and deflate the tyres. If they wanted to ride away it'd be funnyStart Weight 18st 13lbs March 2009

Last summer our office garage was broken into - roller shutter jacked up and 4 bikes nicked, including my own which was only 7 weeks old! CCTV seems to make little difference - there was CCTV of the whole incident, including good shots of the faces of the kids (they were only 14/15 ish) which the police took copies of, but unsurprisingly nothing was ever heard of from the police again.
My frustration really comes with the lack of feedback from the police after the incident is reported0 -
Sorry to hear this Chewy Cheeks. My wife had a very nice Cannondale MTB pinched a few years back. Really awful feeling.
Have you posted on the Stolen section of the forum too fwiw?FCN 2-4.

Thanks for all the helpful advice.
