frame geometry

Sorry if this is a really 'bone' question, but I'm a little confused.
I've been getting much more of an understanding into the specs/styles of bikes more and more, and understand the pecking order etc.
But, one thing confuses me:
For eg, on my bike it says 'Front suss' 130mm: No probs with that, but on Frame geometry it says 120mm travel. Now obviously this refers to full suss bikes only, but 'exactly' what has 120mm travel - the rear shock, or is it complete movement of the frame? Hope that makes sense. Feel free to shoot me down in flames but it's been bugging me.
Thanks

Total vertical displacement of the rear wheel usually. Or its arc.0

it depends on who makes it as to how they measure it.
it does not matter really as very few bikes actually get the given figure as the bump stops stop you getting all the travel."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
