Just planning a trip for next week, using ViaMichelin.

Typed in the following:

Lufhavn København-Kastrup
Tårnby (Copenhagen Airport)

Bachersmindevej 11
2791 Dragør (Nearest Campsite)

clicked the box "By Bike"

Looked at the resulting map with some curiosity, then clicked on "Satellite View". Saw this (purple line is the suggested route):

copenhagen.JPG

and, yes, that is a plane just at the top of the route.

Well on the plus side, the lanes seem to be quite wide, giving cyclists plenty of room. The recommended route is not very direct though, and that junction in the lower part of the picture looks tricky. Who has priority there, bikes or planes? Learning the semaphore arm signals which ground crew use will enable you to re-direct any taxiing planes you may encounter. Those actually taking off or landing are more problematic. Don't let them intimidate you. Wear something bright and ride in the primary position.

Thanks for the advice. that is very helpful.

I'm still a bit worried that pilots might just sit on my back wheel and not take a turn at the front.

In this case you need to levitate about 50 feet above the ground.

If you let their jet engines get too close it will indeed be a very nasty example of wheel-sucking

    this should be better

the first part near the airport is rather confusing on a bike though.

Being a local I might suggest some good trips, where are you heading?

Thank you; that looks much better and you also seem to confirm that we will be able to cycle through the Englandsvej tunnel UNDER the airport.

We have very vague plans indeed. We intend a cycle tour of the city itself and then a train over the bridge to Skane, where we have to go to Ystad (Wallender fan in the party) and Lund and possibly Oland aswell. We have 9 days to play with and, typically, we do 100kms per day. Since we will not be able to afford to sit in pubs in Scandanavia, we may even do more. :D

If you have any top tips for the Copenhagen area, we'd be grateful.

Sorry I didn't catch up with this thread before you left.
So, how was the trip? I myself would be a bit reluctant biking along Swedish main roads, but than again it might be luxury compared to Britain.

Haven't you wondered why so few Swedes in pro cycling? The country sure has the potential of being great for biking, but the cyclist safety is just awful.
