I'm sure this has probably been done before but just out of interest how far do people commute?

I do 5 miles in the morning (come part of the way by train as it saves having to shower once at work) and 20 miles in the evening.

What about everyone else. Who can claim the longest REGULAR commute?

During uni terms, 16.5 miles each way, extended in the evenings if I feel like it (I often do).

    16/17ish miles each way.

One day I'll be bothered enough to fit a computer to measure it.

Around 17 miles each way, a little more if I've time to take a less busy route.

Mine is 14 miles each way (so 28 round trip) each day, although there are nearly always one or two days a week when I need to get the train because of something I'm doing after work.

Tonight, for instance, it's a screening of that Doctor whats-his-name film Heath Ledger was working on when he died.

Short version: 6+2 miles each way
Long version: 6+15 miles each way

Between 9.5 and 10.5 miles each way depending on route. Hoping to build that up a wee bit on fridays by squeezing an extra 5 miles in on the way home

14 miles of incredibly hilly and mountainous terrain. Which clearly makes my commute the hardest there is.

some of this may be exaggerated slightly

Just over 10 miles each way, although I've just planned a 21 mile route on the way home.

Short route is 6.5 miles each way, but at the moment I'm doing 9 miles each way to avoid the cycle paths which seem to fill up with numpty's in the summer. Seriously, they don't even look where they're going! And if they can't cycle in a straight line while only using one hand on the bars, why don't they try two?!!

21 miles each way. Nicely warmed up by the time I reach the Constitution Hill/Mall drag strip to steal a few Hairy Roadie scalps...

3.14miles each way (sometimes with a fairly hilly 7 mile loop on the way back, weather and will permitting).

I'm quite proud of the 0.14 miles, probably equates to the length of hill I do

    Yes very good :roll: :wink::D

Seriously though it always comes out as 3.14 on the computer, maybe a sign (other than pi  )

My ride to work can be as short as undera mile but is usually 4.5 miles, I could do longer but I'd miss out on a hot cuppa made for me  The ride home is somewhatshorter at a mile as I want to get home and relax after a day at work and catch up with the goings on on BR.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • 30 miles each way into central London, although not every day every week since I don't always work in the office and sometimes I ride in and catch the train back to be in time to read to the kids before bed.

only about 14 miles around a couple times a week (on night shifts) and drive a couple times a week (day shifts on account of not being arsed to get up at 4am to get ready to be on the road by 0430)

try and get other general leisure rides in when I'm on my days off. plan a jaunt down to the Turf Lock on Monday with the Chap (although he won't be cycling due to a delicate operation  )
Officers don't run, it's undignified and panics the men
  • used to be 0-14 miles but new job starting in a week is only 2 miles, stress free roll though park.

14.5 ish each way - jaws tend to drop when I say that to people at work. Had it not been for finding this forum I'd assume I was the only person with that sort of journey.

Easily manageable though I'd prefer if it was slightly shorter so I could run some days.

does the weekend commute count? Sat morning Wokingham to Orpington 72 miles, Monday morning Orpington to the office, 67 miles...
admittedly this is not every weekend... but I had to just brag about it...

I did sorta post a similar thread a while back - here.

I'm still vaguely curious to know what the longest commute is that's done every day.

    [Edit]
With my "longest" restrictions as in my previous thread, shortest route counts, because it's "easy" to make a route longer.
