I'm looking for a spare set of rims to stick different tyres on etc.

Are the DT Swiss 420SL's any good ??. Been offered a set for £80.00 minus cassette & rotors of course.

They are fine for XC. But that is only part of the equation - what about the hubs and spokes? Who built them?

They're built for Specialized and came off an Epic 2009. Stout front & DT Swiss rear. Hardly used and straight as a dye.

I'm just sick of changing tyres between rides. ie, when I go to Dalby, and then back to part on/off road.

    Just need a 34T cassette & rotors.

Can't find them to buy at a retailer

Without rotor shims too you will still have to adjust the brakes every swap, and maybe the gears.

    80 quid is about right.
  • I have a pair of these on my Stumpjumper and so far i'm not 100% happy with them i have used the bike up Afan 3 times and have somehow bent two spokes on the front wheel and one on the back. Perhaps they have been hit by stones/rocks.

    Will I ? , even with identical rotors & cassette ?

Quite possibly - the hub shells are not always exactly the same dimensions, even with the same hub!

and as things wear things change.

and the trouble some people seem to have after removing their wheels

Just remembered, Spesh build many wheels with straight guage 1.8 spokes.

Which are not a very good choice for most people.

Thanks, I'll fit the wheels first & see if I need them. Amazing how things change as you use the bike, as you say. Haven't used mine for 10 days and on a ride this evening the pads are scraping the rotors, but were fine after a 27 mile ride when I put the bike back in the garage ten days ago :?
