I have the basic Specialized Allez for my first Road bike and I am well please with it, I am considering some improvement such as a better Groupset from the Sora also perhaps some wheel & tyres, current wheels that came wit5h the bike are S 500 Alex Rimms I don,t want to go mad but are ther any reccomendations any of you can give me, perhaps by people with the same bike that has been upgrqaded. Thanks all.
Of course its about the bike! Although having the legs helps.

wheels and tyres first IMO
handbuilts - for example, Open Pros on Ultegra - offer a lot for the money, and are only bettered by spending quite a bit more. Use a good builder.
tyres - Mich Pro Race3, GP4000S, Schwalbe Ultremo, Vittoria EvoCX etc. with some lightweight tubes (Coni Race Light, Mich AirComp Ulralight or Aircomp Latex etc.) are good bets. Mich Krylion or Fortezza Tricomps if you want them to be a bit tougher and last a bit longer.
After that, it's just a weight reducing task really. Start with the chainset, then stem/bars/seatpost/cassette and so on.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0 -
+1 for wheels and tyres. New lad on our club run has an Allez and has put some Easton EA50SL wheels on it and he does very well, looks the biz as well.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?

Thanks for the replies guys..seems wheels along with good tyre & tubes is the way to go, The tyre on my bike don't have any grooves would you reccomend grooves, also what differnce do better wheels make apart from weight (dumb newbie question).Of course its about the bike! Although having the legs helps.0

Grooves on a tyre are not that important as you're very unlikely to aquaplane a bike.. New/better wheels will be stiffer, possibly lighter and depending on choice more aero.Norfolk, who nicked all the hills?
