Does anyone know where I can get a spare sensor magnate for my Garmin Edge? I'm after the one that goes on the pedal crank for the GSC 10.

Thanks

I bought some small rare earth disc magnets off ebay, and attached one to the pedal axle. Very cheap, and works fine. You might need to glue it though if you have Ti axles.

do this ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^, much neater than zipping that daft plastic mount to your crank!

I ended up using the one that comes with Tacx turbo trainers, it attaches with a rubber band, so is easily re-positioned or removed etc. It is available as a spare, and costs about £4.

I did that too because the zip ties wouldn't hold the Garmin magnet on my carbon crank very well.

Bought 10 12mm disk magnets for less than £4. Brilliant, and you don't need to have the sensor so close to the magnet on the crank either. Now got lots of spares, though I can't see me losing one!

It says ebay on one of the posts. Though I've got some in Maplins a few times. About a quid each.

Ebay. Still got 9 left and can't imagine needing them. There's no way it'll fall off.

Do you think this would do the trick and how do you recommend attaching them to the crank?

yep, just stick it on the pedal spindle, it should be magnetic. Will need to move the sensor on the chain stay.

    Cheers.

    It's for a Trek 1.2 on a turbo.

    Exactly. Except for Ti spindles.

The 12mm magnet is a perfect fit. Also, because the magnet is so powerful, you don't need such close fitting. The Garmin original says 1-2mm between magnet & sensor. Mine is about 10mm away, allowing the sensor to be tucked in quite a bit.

I ended up cancelling the probike order and did what you suggested. Worked a treat so thanks for the suggestion. And the magnet fits perfectly inside the recess of the crank where the pedal goes.

    nice one... :D

    Hey Sampras 38,

did you get the ones in the ebay link you posted??

Do they fit ok within the recess at the end of the crank?

How many did you use, I guess you probably have 23 spares or so!

I have yet to fit my garmin gsc10, so am just looking to better solutions.
Anyone know where I can get a spare mount for an Edge 305?

Bob - here is one place: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Garmin_Edge_Bike_Mount/5360036880/

    They may be cheaper elsewhere,

You should have got two with your 205/305 assuming that is what you own.

    Cheers

Hi Daniel. I only used the 1 and have 11 spare..;-)

My main bike also has a Garmin sensor but that one has the original magnet you get with the GSC10. When it breaks or goes missing I'll replace it with one of these magnets. And I've not checked to see if the magnet will fit in the recess of my proper bike, but it fits fine in the trek 1.2 on the trainer. The magnets are also very strong so as already mentioned on here, they don't have to be so close to the sensor.

    Pete,

It should fit in any crank as pedal spindles are uniform in size. So as long as the spindle is magnetic it should do the job fine.

I think I'll list some of my spares on ebay as Garmin replacement magnets.
