Problems uploading avatar

Hi there,
I've new here, and have been having some problems uploading an avatar in any format other than a GIF!
I do a lot of photography and image editing, so resizing and compressing an image isn't a problem for me- but I've tried jpg and and png too but neither work. All the files I have tried to upload are no bigger than 80px at the longest side, and are all less than 10KB... so what am I doing wrong?
Each time I try to upload it I get the same message which says "The avatar filetype must be .jpg, .gif or .png".... which it always is!
Any ideas or am I stuck with a highly compressed and suitably dodgy GIF of me attempting to track cycle (if you weren't sure what it was of!)

Have you tried uploading the link to a website and linking to it?0 -
