PTP - Vattenfall Cyclassics
...aka the HEW Cyclassics, aka the Hamburg GP. This coming Sunday:
http://www.vattenfall-cyclassics.de/index.2.html
Only a few teams have confirmed their startlists so far, but I'm sure they'll be posted here once they're released:
http://startlist.cyclingfever.com/start ... t&id=19130
http://cyclingstartlists.com/2009/08Aug ... ll2009.htm
Past winners... usually a mix between sprinters and puncheurs:
2008 MCEWEN Robbie
2007 BALLAN Alessandro
2006 FREIRE GOMEZ Oscar
2005 Pozzato Filippo (Ita)
2004 O'GRADY Stuart
2003 BETTINI Paolo (Ita)
2002 MUSEEUW Johan (Bel)
2001 ZABEL Erik (Ger)
2000 MISSAGLIA Gabriele (Ita)
1999 CELESTINO Mirco (Ita)
If anyone can figure out the route info, please post it in this thread, because the official site is confusing as hell. I can't even work out how long the elite men's race is.
There's also an hour of this race live on British Eurosport on Sunday, but I expect there will also be the usual selection of live feeds on Cyclingfans.com.

Puzzled that they always call it a Hamburg Classic, when all it is, is another Gent-Wevelgem.
Just over 200 KM's and it's time they lost it's status.
No Tour of Germany now, and less public interest as those super riders of the Telekom-T Mobile team have retired. (except Vinokourov making a comeback)
Their TV now show very little "Radsport" these days because the Bubble has burst.
Sorry but I'm waiting to see the Columbia-HTC Team. ?Organiser, National Championship 50 mile Time Trial 19720 -

Yeah I looked at the second link, but I'm still really confused. What's with the 3 small profile graphics? You click on them to enlarge and you get distances of 57 km + 99.5 km + 153.9 km! I mean, obviously the race isn't 300 km plus, but looking at the map the race must use different loops, somehow combining to make a race of 216 km. :?:
I feel like I'm missing something blindingly obvious. All I want is an altimetry profile of the men's race :shock:0 -
If I remember watching it before, they start with the blue loop, then do two laps of the red loop, which includes that monster climb.
Or something...0 -
Does this help?

(sorry, I've tried copying the image location & putting it between "img" tags, but I can't get it to display the image.)
That shows an almtimetric profile of the route at the top of the page, if you zoom in, the resolution's quite good....
(I'll make my PTP pick later though!)0 -

The race starts out on the large loop below the city and through docklands to open country (very boring) then we have the mountainous docklands and back thro the city. Then the upper loop (and from memory) they come back to the city and back out on that same loop.
The 3 times around the tiny loop and down to the river Elba and then up the only real climb to make the dash to the city finish after that 3rd little circuit climb..
I think it's a total of 5 times past the river and up the climb.
The breakaway usually gets caught near the end of the second upper loop when they have been thro the finish 3 times
There are so many similarities with this and the Parcours of Gent-Wevelgem at just over 200 KM's.
It's usually on a Satelite German regional station from the start and then ARD take over followed by Eurosport .
ES get to show the 3 little circuits where the action takes place in the last hour.Organiser, National Championship 50 mile Time Trial 19720 -

Hello all,
I found the official race guide at the web site of the race to be most useful in terms of the course description. Does anybody know if this race will be televised in the United States?
The link is below
