Not the Oasis song, but prices: I seem to be finding more bargains than ever, and new kit at great prices. RS forks have come down a fair bit, some great prices in the sales.

Not always on the latest, shiniest kit, but no doubt there is stuff out there to be had.

SS is a moderator and (I assumed) writes for the mags doesn't he?!

If not he a) has way too much free time and b) spends far too long reading/riding and looking at stuff about bikes to have a job!

Haha! Running low on fluids and kleenex...right arm like Popeye though  :P

Seriously though, you're right. Im just about to finish my first ever build (very exciting!) and I've got loads of cheap stuff, especially from CRC. Reckon my total spend is about £550, and teh only second hand bits are wheels and stem.

Bargain of the week? XT V-brakes for £17 :o

CRC is brilliant for bargains. its like a constant sale, I got a FSA Pig headset for £8 that was 'damaged' in a flood :D ask nicely and Scott will put some stickers in with your order as well

    You`re right.

Proably helps that the pound is improving against the euro. When I exchanged currency to go to Spain the other week the exchange rate to euros was really crap at 1.05.Looked the other day and its up to 1.18.

Not sure how the pound is against the yen,but I guess it depends on where the likes of CRC and Merlin are sourcing from.

The RS prices aren`t much more than last year, and Shimano is slightly better than a few weeks ago.

Shame that the price of complete bikes has gone up again for 2010 ,though I guess prices were set, before the improvement in the pound andthe components bought for them by the manufacturers when the yen was at its highest, from Shimano.

If you are in the market for a new bike, and can find a 2009 bike in the right size, buy it now!

Its interesting but with the rises on complete bikes but the softening of prices on components, now might be the time to look carefully at the custom build route..........

I think the Toras changing to the reba Chassis may have upped the price a bit.

We will see them all reduced though no doubt ;-)

  • have you seen Sram PG990 cassette reduced from 77£ to 48 for an 11-34
I assume this is French petrol - be careful in reverse - the car will retreat rapidly at the least provocation.
