Presta Valves ???!!!

Hi,
I have had presta for quite a while now but could someone please tell me the best way to pump them up.
Obviously, you unscrew the dust cap. But i dont know how fair to unscrew the little gold bolt on the thread as I have to pump the pump about 100 times to get decent pressure in the tyres.
Is there a good, reliable, method?
thanks

Get a good track pump with a pressure gauge0

Undo it as far as you can, it won't fall off. It may be that the valve is knackered if it won't inflate properly - i've had this a few times - usually by bending them trying to pump up tubes with a mini pump.0

As adb1006 says, unscrew the little gold bolt all the way, it'll stop at the top of it's travel. If it's not inflating quickly maybe try another pump if you can. My current pump has a Presta adaptor and I had to replace it as the last one didn't seal properly, causing a similar problem to what you describe, although if your pump works on another tyre I'd point the finger at the valve.0

Sometimes, the valve can stick shut. If I ever have to inflate, I unscrew the locking nut and press the valve in, realeasing a little pressure.
This unsticks the valve and away you go with the pump.Craig Rogers0 -
+1 for let a bit out by pressing valve in first then pump up. from flat about 100 pumps with a normal type pump is probably about right though depending on the pressure, tyre volume.Closet jockey wheel pimp whore.0
