tht looks odd, like an old Marin, with an Orange swingarm?!?
  • That's a bit harsh, she's no spring chicken but I think she looks good!!! LOL.

Sorry, I didn't mean odd as in unnatractive, I meant as in unusual. I've never seen one before.
When I think of Ellsworth, I think of massive rocker links like a kona.

Not seen one of these for a while. Ellsworth calls the swingarm the ATLAS - Anti Torsion, Low Anti Squat or summat.

    Tough bikes.

What I find baffling is how the single pivot marins fell out of favour, whilst everyone raved about all the other bikes that are basically the same.
  • My mate had exactly that Marin and the Isis rides quite differently. It was a collabaration between Ellsworth and Ventura apparently. It's beautifully made that much I do know. Weighs around 28 lbs but I have heavy wheels (hope bulbs and 521's) I'm 16 stone and need something ultra sturdy multi linkage bikes aren't for me. I always liked single pivot Marins and thought they were really nicely made.

Orange and a few others are still keeping the technology alive, to me simple is always better. I think there is a real marketing push these days and I'm not convinced that the tech has moved all that far but maybe I'm a luddite. I think Marin are just being out marketed as they are still great bikes.

It is strange (wistfully floats away remembering his MV Pro...). I think in the early 2000s the single pivot became the poor mans substitute as multi pivot VPP bikes became the rage. Now they are back at the top end of the price scale!

Shoot, I still ride one of those and have for 9 years now. I have ridden/owned other bikes as well, and also own a hardtail and a road bike. Nothing rides quite like the old Isis. Kinda wish there were more single pivots out there as my old girl is starting to show some wear.
