My water bottles all go in the dishwasher regularly, on the 'blindingly hot' setting that they use at work...

Yes, they come out a bit flaccid, but once they've cooled they're fine - good as new!

In fact, there are two in my bag that need a wash. Thanks for the reminder. It seems to kill anything and everything, and with all the small pokey parts it's hard to clean them really well by hand.

Flaccid...great word.under used and yet so common

thankfully at the end of the month I will be getting a camelbak bladder for my North Face rucksack which carries my work gear so my water situation will be sorted.

I do have a water bottle. but like many others is is getting a bit grimy. Having said that it is five years old so has stayed in service well. The secret for me...Milton Sterilising Fluid.

I had a heck of a time cleaning the Dakine bladder in my rucksack - their bitey valve thing was like a petri dish.
  • Just curious....how many waterbottles do folks have? I have about 10 and thought this was fairly normal. But from the conversation here it seems like some people have 1. Most of mine are freebies though, I think I only paid for the 2-3 Specialized Big Mouths that I use most often.

I had 3 until earlier this week when this thread was coined and one became detritus.

The problem with #2 is the valve dribbles and can't be closed properly so I never use it and #3 was a brand new zipvit one that came with their recent free offer. That has now been pressed into service and will be used in isolation until dead. I think having 10 is most definitely NOT normal!

I've got a fair few, I know where about 4 of them are.

Yeah, that's what my wife says! Fnarr Fnarr

No, seriously, she thinks having more than 1 bottle or bike isn't right. I have roughly 5 bikes so an average of two bottles per bike sounds about right to me.

how do you have roughly 5 - are some not quite complete?

I have 5 bikes, but I use a camelbak on the mtb and my bottle on the road bikes. I guess I should get another bottle for longer rides, but I don't really do many long rides at the moment.

I like your twisted logic, but I'm sure you accept that it is complete nonsense. The only bike formula proven to be true h = n+1 (where h = how many bikes you need and n = how many bikes you have)

I guess I have 4 - one is an old and manky Trek one which tastes of plastic and is no longer used, two are free Cervelo-branded ones from ZipVit, and one's a flash Camelbak one which I am definitely not going to let go mouldy.

I entered a competition and part of the prize was 12 bottles 6 500ml and 6 750ml I'd say 10 was reasonable, I've got 3 but they're all freebies 1 unibet 1 silence lotto and the zipvit cervelo one. The cervelo one is a bit crap though.

I could not believe the quality of the Elite Cervelo bottle, no wonder the team chuck them away when empty.

I have a super cheap decathlon one and it doesn't leak but I can drink out of it fine...

I got one with the Zipvit freebie box - have no issues with it other than the fact you can't get the last drops out because of the raised inner neck. It tightens down pretty well and the valve is nice and positive in action. What's not to like? Then again, I am only comparing with SiS ones (nothing to write home about) and one from On Your Bike, which was rubbish as the valve came apart inside so it would never shut.
