Just reassembled my forks, having serviced them, and upped the travel, bike back together quick spin, pulled a wheelie.came in ,drank tea and ate a Ginsters pasty to celebrate.

Just need to find my Park tools apron ,wear some flip flops and maybe get some body piercings and tats and I`ll be fully fledged..........

Must have been a good job, I knew someone who pulled a wheelie and the fork sliders fell off!

One time I had just fitted a new tyre on jr's BMX. I picked the bike up with one hand to turn it upright and the wheel fell out

Ha ha - even SUPERheros make mistakes

I've been in the workshp today, fitted new chain, xt shadow mech, new middle chainring, new cassette and cleaned and regreased the bearings in my front and back hubs, headset and pedals - I think I may also celebrate with a ginsters !! :D

Spent ages once trying to thread a bottom bracket into a frame - wrong side

Also once spent ages adjusting an awkward hub. Got it spot on, put the wheel on the bike then found the press in dust cap that I had forgot to put back on and had to do it all again.

Blew up 3 inner tubes in a row in Halfords which emptied most the store lol.

    lol

The cranks for jr's bike were clearly marked L & R. That's L & R when the bike is upright, not upside down

we had an epic blowout in the shop on monday - having filled the tube with slime, the mechanic was inflating a tyre with the compressor. The tyre then blew out on both sides, hooge bang, slime everywhere. My ears were ringing for ages and I was 3 metres away! The mechanic had green liquid spattered around his mouth, looked like he had sucked off an alien!

i i stripped, seviced, cleaned and rebuilt my mates forks last year ..... without instructions  they worked perfectly after and are still good to this day, who needs tf tuned or mojo. mind you i imagine a fox FIT fork is considerably more advanced than a zoom somethin or other from halfords

Having done this,I am at a loss why its costs £100 to get a fork serviced.
I know TFT have a great rep,and replace all the seals, but the seals in mine were still perfect after 2 years use.

Tried it out an a ride last night and its better than its ever been.

i reckon im a pretty handy bike mechanic, not least cause im a plantmechaninc by trade so should be pretty capable.

that said, on more than one occasion i have adjusted/fitted a headset and ridden of for a test without having tightened the stem. bendy handlebar hilarity ensued!

i once nearly fitted an entire tube without removing the wheel, only to notice that the chainstay, chain and seat stay were in the way!

theres loads of other niff naff and trivia mistakes ive made. but theres little more satisfying than doing a good job well.

I tried fitting a BB cup the other day to a resprayed frame without tapping the threads, was cautious and tried using it as a tapping die - 1/4 turn in, back out and clear threads, go again - still stripped a half turn of thread on BB cup before I noticed and had to go find a proper mech to tap the threads. £20 on new cup bugger. Anyone need a drive side deore BB cup without its matching half?

I'm always wary of BB cups. They just don't seem man enough for the job. And the tightening torque...

lowered the saddle and adjusted the angle, tightened it up, pulled a wheelie and the seatclamp bolt sheared at the head. saddle fell off and i ended up sitting on the seatpost

    Painful!

Other silly things I have done:

Overtightened pretensioner cap on new HT2 bb and worn out bearing after 1 ride.

Cleaned chain while still on bike, managing to contaminate disc rotors and pads in the process.

Threaded chain incorrectly through rear mech, and wodered what the irritating noise was half way through a ride.

Pumped up road bike tyre, without checking the tube was installed correclty, and tube burst as pressure neared 100psi!

Not checked rear mech stops on new mech sending, chain into the spokes and meant replacing 4 spokes.

Stripped thread in brake caliper through overtightening......

Alll part of the valuable learning process and means you know how to do it right next time.

i'm not looking forward to replacing a piston on my hayes 9's but normally thoroughly enjoy the satisfaction of finishing something on the bike
