  • Beware of the Foyle CC express train. They are a hardy bunch

You're doing it the 'easy' way round.. the North pole event has the gap of mamore at 90 miles to wrench the legs of you. Hope you get better weather than we did on that event.. Sean Kelly was riding it but for lots of the course you had to be 10M from him to see him.. mist and rain. The way you're doing it though still has tough hills... its not easy as its full of little sharp climbs and steep descents which are tricky (plenty of blind corners where you have to scrub speed etc..) Make sure your gears work especially front Derailleur as there's lots of big ring/little ring changes. Cut up your energy bars or open them at least as I found it difficult in places to feed on the bike.
BTW there were a dozen or so Foyle lads on the Marmotte this year so they're flying..
Best of luck and hopefully you'll be able to view and appreciate the magnificent scenery around there.

This has to be the toughest day on the bike I've ever had, the wind was a nightmare but was happy that I got up all the climbs. The amount & frequency of them surprised me, I was really only expecting Mamore & Kinnego to be tough but there were some other difficult ones.

    Thanks for the advice though
  • The thing about most sportives over here is that although the standout climbs dont look very hard its the short sharp shocks in betweeen that dont show up as much on the profiles that add up to making it a tough day out.
The Sean Kelly, Westernlake Polka Dot, Tour of Kilkenny are all the same type of day out.

  • hope you enjoyed it was thinking of doing it but probably not fit enough, and saw the weather forecast and that wind i did 90 km further west (where i live) and i was thankful to hook up with 2 other guys and get out of the wind
