Going through my village this morning on my way to work I passed the house of a guy I know cycles in also. I slowed down for him to catch up with me and off we went chatting as we peddled. Now cycling with someone very often ups your pace but this was something else! And I've got 3 miles of constant uphill from the house - the rise is about 350 feet.

Anyway I was knackered about 0.5 mile from the top so let him go on without me. A bit of a downer as he streaked off up the hill. I reverted to pootle status to recover. Good downhill next - 650 ft descent in about 4.5 miles. Feeling good now so, rather than take the usual route, I thought I'd save two miles by tackling a second hill - 330 ft in two miles.

Not too bad this time (and I hate hills!) down the other side to meet with the usual route and, to my surprise, there was the other guy about 200 yds in front (he must have gone the long way).

I set off in pursuit to try and show off, but sad to say I didn't manage to reel him in much.

However, I was delighted with the second hill and proving to myself that it is indeed quicker as well as shorter than my normal route. I'm going to murder these hills on the way home.
