My Spesh All Conditions Armadillo on my rear wheel is now finally dead after roughly a year of trusty service and not a single puncture.

In the spirit of trying something new, I'm open to suggestions. I'm not after a fast tyre - just something that grips well in the wet and resists deflation.

Must be 700x25 and must come in blue.

Suggestions?

Vittoria Rubino Pro! 10% off at PBK atm, not sure if they have the 25's in athough I've run 23's for over a year with just 1 P*nc.

That'll be something other than a Gatorskin then.

Conti GP 4 season grips very well in wet and has stayed inflated after 1000 miles or so. Don't think they are coloured though but tyres should be black, its just right.

Waiting for a pair of Michelin Krylion Carbon to arrive, £20 each from Chain Reaction.

They've had good reports and certainly worth a go for the money!

Hmm - not in blue though - personally I fancied the zebra print but went for the Black/Grey in the end

there are good reports on that tyre. Only a tad heavier than the conti gp 4 seasons, but they are a lot cheaper. Interesting...

I used Krylions for a year or so before I switched to Gatorskins because everywhere was out of stock when I needed a new pair (I heard that this was something to do with Michelin producing more of the Pro3s in time for their release).

Outwardly, they cut up more than Gatorskins, but I thought they were a good all round tyre.

This month's C+ gives a very good review for a new Panaracer. Blessed if I can remember the name.

Yup, another fan of the Rubinos here, although I've currently got non-pros. But then I don't go anywhere near as fast or as far as IP.

Does look good this Panaracer, but I want a 28 to give a bit more cushioning when the panniers are on. Then again, I doubt the difference would be that notable

I'm leaning towards Rubino Pros or Krylions - seem to be the right sort of price/durability mix.

Those Panaracers look nice, but they are the sort of thing I'd put on weekend posh bike (when I eventually get one) rather than my commuter.

Don't think you can get 25's in the Rubino's.

We talking commuting here or other?

Commuting I use the Rubino Pro - might be overkill but I can usually find em cheapish and they last forever.

The non commuting wheelsets are shod with ProRace3 and GP4000S respectively. Not a P proof or durable but damn good tires all the same.

You can, but only in black, or in black/grey if Pro Slicks.

Getting colour and 25s seems to be a problem. Watching the blue front tyre spinning around does make me smile in winter, so I guess I'l be doing 23s then. Or keep shopping.

Ah, commuting. I think I may give the Rubino Pro a shot. The price is a plus, and as long as they have good resistance to unwanted deflation.

BTB, I found a spare nearly new Michelin Orium at home (blue, 700x23) which I stuck on to replace the trashed All Conditions Armadillo (700x25). I was surprised just how much quicker the Michelin was for not a huge difference in ride. Think I might go for 23s again after all.

    How do the Rubinos ride?

On the topic of race rubber, I run on Pro Race 2. I have no complaints in the dry, but they are dismal in the rain (that said, I haven't quite got the pressures for wet weather right). I'm thinking of trying the Pro Race 3 Grip for next season, or possibly the GP4000S. Do you find the GP4000S (Black Chili compound, right?) is significantly grippier than the Pro Race 3?

Pretty well, although I've only ever ridden them on alu framed SS bikes

Hrmmmm, I run the Pro Race 3's on my carbon wheels and they've never seen the rain, but the dry grip is fab. The Conti's are also very grippy, and good in the wet. TBH there's nothing between them really. What pressures are you running these days? I used to go everywhere at 120psi but i've dropped down to 110 and there's been a marked improvement in comfort and traction - esp when winding up for a sprint.

8 bar (116psi) dry, 7 bar (100psi) wet. Dry grip is ace, very few places where I get the bike moving around - and when it does start to slide, it isn't scary. Wet grip is monumentally poor, or perhaps it is just my lack of experience in the wet. I do think that perhaps my wet pressure is still too high.
