Confidence with an All Rounder Tyre

What MTB tyre would anyone recommend for xc and some dh (mostly xc)? Where i ride it's mainly loose on hard (Cannock Chase, Llandegla) and need that extra bit of confidence over wet rocks n roots. Thought I'd try and get this sorted before Aug BH weekend as I'm going to indulge myself at Afan - Skyline, Whites etc.
I've just bought a SwampThing 2.35 to put on my front and havnt tried it yet - I know it's intended for DH but thought I'll suck it and see. It seems incredibly heavy though. The original tyres that came with the bike Specialized Captains.

Hi mate, long night?
Best posting this in the MTB section...0 -
I had Velociraptors (front / rear specific) on my mtb and they were a pretty good all round XC tyre. Not sure about DH though; sidewalls are pretty thin. Chain Reaction are doing them for next to nothing at the moment.
Or you could get a road bike instead!0 -
Bontrager ACX Tubeless ready.
Great all round tyres, I use them with Stans no tubes goop, and haven't had a puncture for about 2 years !!!!!!
They're nice and light, grip well and are predictable, I've used them in the Lake District, Scotland, Wales, the South Sowns, Swinley, Yorkshire....... they seem to work everywhere in pretty much all conditions. Oh, they don't like REALLY claggy, sticky mud, but then which tyre does ?
Failing that, try Maxxis High Rollers, not used them personally as I like a lighter tyre, but I know a lot of people who swear by them.
Not good on road bikes thoughScience adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed.
