I can't recommend Damien Harris Cycles highly enough.. excellent service even though I never bought my bike there. Everyone there is really approachable and happy to help.
They are located in WhitchurchSpecialized Pitch Comp - Mr Glass' Monster

Bought my first uk bike there when they were in town centre.
They were really good.
And they are only down the road.
Was also thinking sunset.
Just dont want to build up a realtionship like I did with my last LBS and find out they suck.
Well not in general, its just one guy, but he always manages to get his hands on my FS even though I told the owner and manager not to let him touch it.
Got a full service for 35.00 and he did not even index the gears, even though he put new cables on. Took me like an hour of riding before I managed to do it.
Thanks man0 -
Where did you go?
Tredz, Bike Shed and Don Skene cycles all in Cardiff. Google them for locations
Where do you ride? Skyline Cycles at Glyngorrg are very helpful0 -
Two of my mates have bought bikes from Sunset (Orange 5), one had a problem with the headset they replaced under warrenty no questions asked.
Havent dealt with them myself so can comment.0 -
Deff not tredz.
They charge 30.00 for putting cables on.. That does not include the cables.
Wont say just in case some of them use the forum.
They are very friendly and have been great, its just one guy I dont like.0 -
Not had any dealings with sunset but was just looking at their website drooling over the orange 5's.
When my bike is due a service ill definately take it back to damien harris'.. I popped in there after halfrauds messed up my front front chainrings.. they fixed it there and then and didnt charge.
My girlfriend bought her bike there and after looking around at other shops they where straight with her and didnt try and oversell which in my book counts for alot.Specialized Pitch Comp - Mr Glass' Monster

I agree mottles.
I got my scott from there, first bike in the uk after being away from biking for like 7 years.
And they told me that was the best and to wait for 1 month, and it came in on time as they promised.
And it was 400.00 for full deore, great bike 4 years ago, and sold it for 100 less than I bought it for, before I got my new bike.
They could have sold me some piece of cr@p but they didnt.
Might give them another look0 -
Nod for Don Skene's. Very helpful, even when you're a bit cheeky and asking for money off everything.
I've noticed Tredz is a bit expensive on several things (recently bought a Cameltoe from Skene's - almost £30 less than the same in Tredz).0 -

I bought my SubZero from Sunset, superb service, never too busy to deal with any queries. Mind you I was spending nearly £1500 so that could have had an effect...0 -
I've had a few dealings with Sunset and I only have good things to say. Good advice, good service and good guys.gochel chan ddynion i mewn blew beisiau achos hwy cadernid bod eirth0

I might try sunset.
I am only like a 5 min ride from were I work in town, so could ride in and drop bike off, and take bus home or something.
It would be cool if LBS gave you a loaner eh!
A car place would, I think its a good idea.
A bunch of standard gt bikes, would be ideal, keeps you mobile.0 -
i use tredz (only cos i work just by them) i agree they're pretty expensive but cos i go there a lot they've started to give me decent prices. they've also fitted stuff i've got cheaper off the internet for me. 8)
sunset is good though, i bought my hardtail from them, good guys0 -
cycleapedia in cathys 2mins from sunset excellent shop-great wheel builds0

Maybe you need to have words with the boss about the "one guy" who's causing you to rethink where you get your bike stuff! Unless it is the boss obviously
You may find the rest of the staff think he's a knob too - might be all you need to do to get him to shape up!http://i556.photobucket.com/albums/ss9/ ... lurLT2.jpg

Charged me a tenner for a single cable fitted including the cable, maybe you're talking to the wrong guy?
Bought a bike and a few bits at Don Skene, nice place but a bit out of the way for me.
Had some repairs done at Cyclopeadia (close to work at the time), seemed pretty good although not a lot of bike stock in the shop.
One of the staff was pretty rude to me in Sunset so I stopped going there, up until then they were top notch. It was the first time I'd seen him there so maybe it was a one off.
Don't have enough experience of any of the other places to comment.0 -
Hey
Was just going on a bike blue sign that said.
NOOBS PRICE LIST:
40.00 for bleeding
30.00 for cables
and it was about 40.00 for a full serv.
Buy a new bike for all that
I get some bits from tredz as they do have a nice shop and oil and stuff is an ok price.
I need to go back to damien harris as have not seen new location.
Anyone free to go riding on saturdays only as got parent stuff to do other times..... None of my mates ride.
Thanks so much guys, its nice to know what people think about cardiff LBS.
I am surprised no one has mentioned The bike shed in canton There is a guy in there that knows his stuff.. But to bad he is hardly in.0 -
had my new bike from Sunset - seemed like a decent bloke who delivered it, and he set out at 5.00 a.m in the morning to get it hereCube Attempt 20110

what sort of riding do you do canada? me and my mates usually ride cwmcarn, afan and trail around cwmbran, i'm more into freeride/all mountain but my mates are more xc whippets so we sort of even up on longer rides0 -
XC
Like drop offs, but not into jumping that much.
Have handled the black run W2 in afan and been to cwmcarn
And up to castle coch but have not taken trail to cwmbran yet.0 -
shall i let you know when we're out next? we're going up north to do the marin trail next weekend, but we'll definately be going to whites level again soon0
-
I would be up for a get together.. Would be cool if you can let me know. Would have to be a suinday though as I work most saturdays.
Ive ridden afan but would love to have a go at the longer routes and also attack cwmcarn.
Canada where abouts do you ride in Castle coch? Ive discovered the Garth on the other side of the A470. Im heading up there tomorrow to discover it more.Specialized Pitch Comp - Mr Glass' Monster

Yeah like bike shed too, they were the only shop who wanted to be bothered fixing my mates old manitou forks (they are pretty shit forks 170mm single crown things from '04) ive never been into any shop, anywhere in the world as well spoken as the chaps in the bike shed. It's like the Eton riding club in there!0

Experinces in sunset for myself and house mates have been poor recently, with bad servicing for a mates Kona who will not take it back there now, and my self a year or so back when i was spending £1500 the weren't interested. also when in there a little while back looking at clothes one of the staff was on the phone F.ing this and that while i was shopping it doesn't bother me but its not what expect from staff in any retail shop.
Don's i bought my bike from and they are other than bike buying very over priced and tend to treat everyone as a know nothing, so when i had creaking in my pivots and they told me it was my BB i scoffed, it came back with obviously no work on the BB but clean grease coming from my pivots and they still tried to tell me it was my BB i'm not stupid and know its a common thing with my bike.
Anyways there are 2 i would avoid0 -
Popped into Muddy Bums in Rhwibina today.. really nice guy in there seemed to know his stuff. Will definately be going back thereSpecialized Pitch Comp - Mr Glass' Monster
