Hi Thanks for looking,

Ive got a Cannondale bad boy 700 08 and for the past 2 months have noticed a rattle/vibration sound (sorry its sort of inbetween) comming from what seems like the front part of the bike.

Its not a drive train noise as without pedalling it still occurs and I only hear it when going quite quickly. It happens out the saddle also, I was thinking it could be a hub problem the bikes only done 600 miles so not sure about the BB or anything??.

I do commute on it everyday and the roads round east london are crap I use Mavic openpro's handbuilt with deore hubs.

Its really really bugging me ive tried everything apart from removing the hubs as i dont know what im doing, any ideas ?? its probably something stupid...here's hoping.

Thanks

R

  • Is the noise coming from the handlebars or lower down at the front? It could be a loose cable in a shifter or brake lever. Are any of the cable housings rattling against the frame somewhere? Have you fitted fenders? Are there any wheel reflectors loose and rattling against the spokes? Have you got a broken spoke at the front?

    Hi Daniel

Many thanks for the reply apreciate it.

Its comming from lower down im sure, the fame is one of those cannodale integrated cable ones so the cables actually route into the frame might it be rattling inside ?.

I have not got wheel reflectors and the rear wheel was just retensioned the front ones seem fine. everything is tight ive tested it all, what would a dodgy hub soundl like would it make a rattle of would I feel it more ??, cant think what else.

Its really weird if I turn the bike upside down cant hear a thing which makes me think its some kind of rattle caused by vibration on the roads i do run the tires at 120psi although its definately not tire noise.

If there's no noise when you turn it upside down, perhaps it is caused by cable tapping against the inside of the frame (presumably, it's no loose enough to touch the other side of the frame upside down). This is a problem Biondino had with his focus and the tapping along the inside fo the top tube.

If you bough the bike new, did the shop offer you a free service after 6 weeks odd?
    FCN 2-4.

"What happens when the hammer goes down, kids?"
    "It stays down, Daddy."
    "Exactly."

    Hi cjcp

Yes its had a service when I bought it, ive had it a short while now.

Yes you may be right if I take it slowly down the road its nice and silent but as soon as I start spinning quite quickly the noise is there clear as day, which I why i keep thinking hub problem or something under load.

Its going in for a service on Saturday so will mention it then but I hope it gets sorted as its driving me mad, I would not mind at all if I could definately say whats causing it but Its worrying when I can hear this noise and not know why.

    Thanks
