Went for a ride last Sunday with a super bunch of x whippets, thought it would help my fitness but the speed they carried over 4 hours made me want to puke.
When we got to technical section I tackled a steep desecent that inclined sharply onto a 3ft rut bang in the middle of the trail, took the berm on the outside and dodged it superbly. I was so impressed with the move that I failed to see the massive overhanging branch - snap - biggest crash of my life, flew of the bike off the edge of the hill and fell about 20 feet. Hit my head on the ground but the Giro did its work with aplomb.
Everyone rushed to my aid and seemed dead impressed with what they called 'the biggest crash they'd ever witnessed since starting the club'. If things couldn't get worse I kept getting left behind on the fireroads later on (I was the only one on flat pedals and 2.3 inch tyres) got a nasty flat and managed to endo and badly cut my hand on my brake rotor - (3 stiches in casualty.
The group then proceeded to change my tyre for me and one rider constantly killed his speed to make sure I was ok.
When i met my gf in the carpark I was shattered but had a great time. Going again with them next Sunday - fab bunch of blokes

Geordie
Seriously, I'm lucky to be alive, remember the off in slow mo. When I was falling I was convinced that my time on planet earth was coming to a painful end. What is it about folk having HUGE crashes and walking away unscathed? My Giro was cracked and did its job, but the funniest thing was that my crash impressed my riding buddies no end, and in a sad but funny kind of way, they think I'm the next evil kinevil - lol
How've you been? Eyeing up the Kona 2010 range?0 -
Certainly have mate, just in the process of upgrading and replacing a few bits on my own bike at the minute.
My brother had a biggy the other day he went down an embankment and rolled around and ended up pointing the other way, done his knee and hand in - funny stuff etc ..
I couldnt really take the piss coz he aint been riding long so im trying to make light of any mistakes he makes when deep down i want to slaughter him mercilessly like i would with any other riding buddy, except he cant take a joke as well as me so i leave him alone...........
Where have you been hiding ?0 -
Just been super busy with work as of late and have been riding at 6.30 pm every weekday which leaves me with no time for the forum. My crash has afforded me with some time off and now I'm just chillin at home, playing with my brutal Jack Russell and driving my gf mad (spilt some disc brake cleaning fluid on the carpet) tried to brush it out but it smells super strong and got rumbled - heh heh
All in all nothing's changed during my absence, still can't climb for shoot, still keep accidentally squeezing the front brake too hard on scary downhills.0 -
Ha ha - im still enjoying the novelty of having my own workshop - its a soul massaging place to be ha ha after a ride clean the bike get it in the shed with a few beers stick the pioneer stack on with the jamo D165's and 8 cans of stella then I get my tool(s) ? out lol !!0

Biggest off I've had was going full whack down a steep root-covered hill, dodging trees left and right and then doing a small jump over one of the larger roots... only to then run smack bang into a tree.
I went flying in the direction I was originally traveling in (somehow avoided actually hitting the tree myself), the bike went about 8 foot up in the air and came crashing down ontop of my head.
Got up and I was absolutly fine, couldn't balieve it. The 2 m8's who were riding behind me were sure I'd just killed myself.
