Hi,

Been looking at the Scott Scale 20 and have noticed a price drop to £1799 down from around £2300-2400

http://www.pedalon.co.uk/acatalog/scott_scale_20.html

Would you consider that "bargain" territory?. I know that they are starting to reduce the '09 lineup across most manuf's now due to '10s on the way.

Should I wait for the '10 to be released first or are there any other likely bargains that usually appear around the corner this time of year?.

Is it likely this bike will drop further?.

Cheers! :D

Looks like a good deal to me and I get the impression 2010 bikes will be either more expensive or lower specced than 2009 equivalents.

Very good deal - one of the lightest frames ever made, and a smattering of top kit.

    Is that a buy then :D .

I assume, it's not realisticly going to drop much more than that?

    It is a consideration ;-)

I would go and at least sit on one first to get the sizing right.

Is it a long, steep and low XC race bike you are after/

Well TBH, I have a '99 Giant ATX 990 that I use daily for exercise (and boy does it take some moving :D). I'm going to start moving on to doing some XC work (still 80% road), non of this downhill / rocky stuff, just grass / gravel really.

I fancy something decent as I will use it. I have had a look at the boardman Pro HT, whats your view on the spec of the Boardman for around £850 - £999 (depending on how I get it), vs the Scale 20 @ £1799. Which one do you think is the best VFM (not just looking at low price point).

Haven't sat on a scale 20 yet, went to see a local scale 30 in a shop today with a price tag of £2k on it :o , but didn't test it.

Browsed around the net regarding the Scale 20, can't really find that much about peoples real life experience with it.

Both are great value, and difficult to compare.

However take a look at the Carrera Titan.

Just checked the spec out, not too shabby for the price.

Is it not slightly worrying though purchasing a carbon bike with such a low price point?.

Might go and have a look, as they have one in stock in my local Halfrauds.

Not too sure on the Carrera brand either, had one many years ago which was - interesting to say the least! (not that I will hold that to them these days  )

    Not heard any probs!

If you want the lightest and best frame, then the Scale would top my list. For the best value, then the Boardman has to be worth a look. An inbetweener, with a carbon frame then the Titan!

    Thanks for the advice Supersonic.

If anyone wants to praise / slam any (especially the Scale 20), please voice your opinion :D

I think if prepared to drop near 2k on a bike it would be worth looking at some others around that price point ie:

    (yes, I have one!)

The frame is not as light as the Scales, but is meant to be stiffer and tougher and may suit a harder/heavier XC rider. I have mine set up with longer travel and more of a trail all round bike. Comfy frame.

I did consider the Zaskar carbon (always like GT's). It just looks to me that the Scott is slightly better VFM looking at the £1799 price tag. Not too worried about strength as I wouldn't be doing anything that would put massive amounts of stress on the frame.

Well, I've ended up purchasing a brand new Boardman Pro HT from Ebay for £825 delivered. Also got £25 worth of Ebay points / £5 odd cashback (cashbackkings) and £4.10 by using my CC (cashback). So around £790 total cost (can't enroll on one of these cycle shemes to save).

After your points and a bit more reading, I couldn't really justify the extra grand for a pound or two in weight loss over the Scale 20. The equipment on the Boardman should last me fine
