Just a quick one. Looking at a new bike and will prob get a planet x sl carbon with red group. Thinking about trying to get some moneyoff if i don't take the wheels and tyres. So which leads me to my question. Should i leave the planet x wheels or go for fulcrum 5's. Don't want any better wheels then 200 quid as winters coming and they will be my training wheels. As looking to buy areo wheels come spring and a set of climbing/lwt wheels after that.

For winter/training I would go with something like Open Pro rims on Ultegra hubs for that sort of price.0

The Planet X Model B's are fine - as are the Racing 5's or Napoleon's handbuilt suggestion - all 3 are perfectly adequate to get you throught the Winter.0

I use Open Pros on my winter/trainer bike (with powertap rear and DT Swiss front hubs) as year round wheels. Perfect IMO.
Nowt wrong with shimano hubs but you could always go for something else like DT Swiss, Hope etc etc.
I've heard of too many problems with Fulcrum wheels for me to go for them.
Lots of club members use the Planet X wheels, they all seem happy with them...0 -
I have some Fulcrums, the 3s though - had them for a week and done about 100 miles already in them and they feel so much better than the Mavics I had before.
Problems that can arise with the Fulcrums are probably more to do with the lack of maintenance than anything.
For winter training I would get an easily serviceable wheel like the handbuilts Napoleon recommend.x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x

+1 These guys are arguing about the difference between Coke and Pepsi.
Yes, I tried to put it as diplomatically as possible, Den0 -

You do it a hell of a lot better than I do. I'm way undiplomatic.0 -
I said go for the P-Xs or Open Pros, here is one recent thread about fulcrums...

To be honest Napoleon similar things could be said about the Planet X wheels, I have read nightmares on this forum about hubs being chewed on ...
About handbuilts - all well and good if you have a good wheelbuilder doing them, I had some handbuilts originally (not as good as those admitedly) and popped spokes and the rim was bent a few times. Fantastic because I could take it to the LBS to repair it but my pocket didn't like it, so got some Ksyrium Equipes and problem gone!x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x
