All,

I have just upgraded to a shiny new road bike (old hack was 'stolen') for my daily commute. :D

Anyhow, know how regulary de-chaining and such the like can happen and the damaged is does to the frame, can anyone recommend protection.

I have heard of helicopter tape, but not sure what this is or how useful it is.

Many thanks for your help in advance.

Lizard Skins from Chain Reaction Cycles or Wiggle (LBS will have them too, I suspect). They'll be under "Frame Protection".
    FCN 2-4.

    "Exactly."

These days I've got chain catchers rather than protectors.
You can get fancy dan products like this:

Or cheaper like this (I have a couple of these):

FCN 2-4 "Shut up legs", Jens Voigt
    Planet-x Scott

    Very nice product, good protection:

or for a cheaper option you could use some old bar tape
If you see the candle as flame, the meal is already cooked.

On a similar note, does anyone know where i can get some of those little rubber donut type things that go around cables to protect the frame tubes from scratching?

That's a good question. I'd imagine asking at your LBS workshop would get you some. I'll admit I've never seen them online but my LBS has fitted them on the rare occasions that my bikes have been serviced by them. :). And no they were not reusing the existing ones as I had already lost them.

    Cheers, will ask.

Noticed some scratches while on my way to meet everyone else on yesterday's ride.
