A chainguide or single speed?

Having recently bought an On-One 456 summer season I am wondering how to run the gearing, it's currently a 1 x 9 set-up but after the first two proper rides this weekend its clear I need some device to retain the chain on the front ring...
I could either return to single speed making my bike a bit like the Transition Bikes Transam thus negating the problem or get an E13 chain guide. I've used a front mech which the cheaper option but there not great and can still drop the chain especially on some of the rough trails in the Hope Valley where I ride.
What to do?

What do you do on the bike?
Do you want gears, do you need gears?0 -
if you mean that you are considering running a dual ring up front, get a front mech and an e.thirteen DRS. I've got one on both bikes.......i'll buy you a pint if you manage to drop the chain with a DRS on
One thing though, they are about £120 and an absolute PAIN to fit. Get your LBS to do it, it may save you hours of swearing about fecking chainlines etc.0 -
