Anyone know the best way of cleaning the really small holes in the metal filiters. After a period, these get clogged up with coffee. Apart from using a pin, anyother ideas etc.

  • I tend to use a stiff bottle or pan brush.

Depending on the water hardness in your area, you may find that some of the blockage is due to scale deposits. If that's the case, then running a descaling solution (usually a dilute citric acid solution) through the machine and filter can help.

I live in an area with hard water and use a brita filter jug to prefilter water, both for my espresso machine and kettle, to prevent scale build up.

Chuck it in a bowl of vinegar for a few hours but clean it properly before you use it in the coffee machine.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Its not listed but they have filters and rubbers all in a pack that cost not very much. Just give them a ring and state the size. I don't live there anymore but if i ever go south, I pop in to get a new set of rubbers and filters. Oh and I have'nt got a Lavazza machine its stainless steel and the woman once almost refused to sell me them because she insisted it would'nt fit but it does.

  • Kettle descaler works for me, make sure you rinse thoroughly before using though. Unlike when my wife did it recently....
