hmm, looks suspiciously like an out and out race bike0 -
-
Yep. Dunno if they have lightened the frame up more.0
-
if you look at the spec of the previous carbon zaskas, werent they all out and out race bikes?0
-
Pretty much, but GT designed the original frame to be stiffer and tougher than most race bikes and to take a bigger fork if required, like I have done.
"We wanted to come up with something new and so decided to go with carbon fibre, building a frame that is 1.2 kg for the medium size," said GT's director of product development Mark Peterman when the frame was introduced last summer. "There are frames out there of one kilo but these are strictly race-only. That's a bit restrictive. We wanted to make a frame that epitomised what Zaskar was about - something which was a bit more rough and tumble. A bike that was very stiff but also very predictable. One which was a lot of fun to ride."0 -

Wonder if the 2.0 will get a Dart 2 or 3.
Nice wheels on the Zaskar.0 -
There will be a new full susser trail bike called the Sensor too.0

Not convinced about the whole 10 speed thing. I remember when we first went to 8 speed, then the later shift (no pun intended) to 9 speed - always seemed to bring out problems in shifting.
I still reckon 9 gears on the back is too much in the much I ride in winter, so it'll take a lot to convince me of 10 speed.
As for the carbon zaskar.... Pfft, doesn;t even have pedals0 -
More 2010 Avalanches:
That black one looks the dogs nuts.0 -

Very nice looking bike, but that triple triangle is getting so small, I don't know why they bother - other than tradition.
Look at the old 'uns in comparison:
Nice bike that! You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -
It has got smaller, but look at the difference in frame size - old small zaskars were the same.
The tube profiles of the new stuff ape the ones on the carbon frames, ie the down tube cross section.0 -

Looks like some changes to the I-Drive unit there. Wonder if it will remove the creaking issue that a lot of us have with the current I-Drives.Canyon Spectral AL 9.0 EX
Planet X RT90 Ultegra Di20 -
Yep, new main pivot design and updates to the rest. Supposed to be lighter and simpler, but I did like the old headset bearing and BB tool system.
Dunno why they have suddenly started creaking for 08 and 09!
Good move by GT though, they needed something to fill the the void between the Marathan and Force as they discontinued the ID5 for 09 (the Halfords versions are 08 frames)0 -
that schematic looks alot nicer than the bike in the flesh:
whats goin on with the bendy seat tube, i like a swoopy frame but that looks odd in the same way as the alchemist0 -
and the alchemist is one seriously ugly bike!
That GT isn't pretty, but I'd rather that than the alchemist.0 -
i think a few months ago when i first saw it i liked the look of it, but now i dont know whats going on with it.
i like the look of the fury dh bike though, now that is an ace looking bike.0 -
Wiggly tube fashion followers lol, with a bit of standover added.0

The Yellow on the Zaskar needs replacing with red to match the hubs/groupset IMO. and put a black saddle on it. please."Melancholy is incompatible with bicycling." ~James E. Starrs0

I now know the price and specs of the models of the Avalanches:
1.0 - £699.99
2.0 - £569.99
3.0 - £379.99
There is very little spec change from the 2009 models - the frames are all new though, and the 1.0 does get a Tora 302.
2.0 is looking a bit expensive now, though I expect the prices will drop.
3.0:

I ride a GT Avalanche 2.0 06 and to me it looks like they changing the frame geo away from XC. Is the geo changing or is just me being weird?0
-
It's always been on the relaxed side of things really. No zaskar geo here!0

Or custom groupset?0 -
And rid of that Thomson seatpost. Lighter and better out there, especially on a bike of that cost.0
