Periodically I have a search around the web for good French sites to practice my (really, really poor) French. I've got most of the usual newspapers, radio and language learning sites bookmarked, including some cycling specific vocabulary pages.

Does anyone know of any cycling forums? The only ones I can find aren't as well frequented as the UK ones and are generally racing or MTB ones. Any touring blogs?

In fact, are there any sites at all that you'd recommend?

Can't help really, but it would be interesting to read if those french cycling websites are full of stories of people being knocked off their bikes by stressed bus drivers and retarded chav's like ours are.

I'm fairly sure that there's a Paris CM and a few others around France, so I'd expect so.

Cheers, Andy. I think I've had a look at most of them ( the first couple of pages at least).

I'm wondering if I've not been using appropriate mots clefs. I had a brain wave and tried velo randonneur and came up with this: Super Randonneur, L'esprit de la longue distance. It looks fairly new, civilised and a good standard of French (some French forums are as bad as here  ).

  • If you're on iTunes, go to video podcasts and search for "Walk, Talk and Learn French"

There's a Franco-Scottish bloke who walks round Paris looking for interesting bits of grammar and explains how they work, with another guy in the studio going over it. If you're a beginner I would highly recommend it to learn some grammar you won;t get from just reading newspapers etc, although that is a very good way to learn.

As for the way I learnt? Got my self into scary amounts of debt studying it at Uni (which is still a year away from finsihing) and breaking my collarbone whilst working in France.....
