Rode home from work (tried to run over the boss on the way out but he moves too fast  ), parked the bike in partial shade in the conservetwarrr and went for a shower.

When I emerged from my lather my mother said "Your rear tyre has just exploded. Its blown the tyre right off the wheel" ..and sure enough it has. Now last friday I had a similar problem came back to the bike in the evening and found it flat. Change of tube after a wheel and tyre inspection found nothing.

I reckon I had heat make it go. Thing is it was only at 70psi, 10 less than the manufactuer recommends. Time to try a non-bontrager tube.

What tyres are you running on what rims? Some don't bed into the grip profile of the rim sidewall properly. I used to have the same problem with Vittorias on Mavic MA40s. I would think that a 'bang' is the tyre carcass letting go of the rim, whereas an inner tube going would probably be a loud hiss.
To err is human, but to make a real balls up takes a super computer.

Once a tyre lets go off the rim, the tube will try to get to the size of something about 6 times bigger than a tube can go in a fraction of a second, hence the bang.

If you don't believe me, try putting 120 PSI into a 23C tube when it isn't being held back by a tyre!

Have been using Panracer Crosstowns. More of a commuter tyre due to the crud on the roads and the fact I ride through the common most days.

Have been planning to switch back to proper road tyres (as said in the commuting forum).. just havent managed to get down the shops yet. Hopefully monday.
