What's the difference?
The blood is a couple hundred more, but I prefer the single swingarm to the alpine... (had a little go at glentress today).
I do like them both, and have read the descriptions on the orange site, but does the extra few hundred actually give any benefits?
Ie is the shock position/rear triangle a better formation to the single swing arm of the alpine?

isnt the blood a slopestyle bike as opposed to one designed for riding on proper trails?
ie, long fork but relatively short rear end but really slack, a kind of stunt bike.0 -
'm not sure, that's what got me confused...
Both are 160mm travel
both have all mountain and freeride versions available
both have similar descriptions on the orange website..
Confusing or what!0 -
i dont mean to sound racist but, they all look the same to me!!0
-
no, i was right, the blood is only 127mm travel but with a long fork, designed for slope style0

old ben there, buying a full sus bike. :roll:0
-
Another bike for ben!
Can you afford it?
;-)0 -
Hehe not quite yet. Got 2 weeks to decide when I get home from glentress (obviously can't buy while I'm here).
Looked at a Trek session FR too, but I didn't like it too much... Definately just a downward pointing bike
only other one is the marin that cheesey was looking at the other day... The one with the hammerschmidt.0 -
i love the idea of hammerschmidt, its just so expensive to buy aftermarket and i dont belive for one minute that it isnt heavier than a regular set up.0
-
The all moutain marins do look good though, and are reputed to be great rides.
The Oranges always rate highly, though whether their advantages would be noticable on the trail after you had forked out for the high prices is debatable. Now that we are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak and not to please ourselves. ROMANS 15:10 -
Comparing similar bikes with similar specs, I don't think the orange bikes are that badly priced tbh.0
-
What's making you abandon the hardtails then? :P
The blood is designed more for freeride/slopestyle orientated stuff, lower slung frame, relaxed geometry, probably doesn't pedal quite as well as the alpine, they look super nice in the flesh though especially in that baby blue colour.0 -
I honestly don't know tbh.
Had the best day ever on the surge, never been so fast downhill in my life!
When we got back, I was looking at an alpine and had a short try on one. Might go hire one next week and see how it compares to the surge.
I'm just wary that my connectivity and feel of what the bike is doing/how to react to the trail will be dumbed down, but the extra bounce at the rear will hide mistakes.... Making the ride a bit more boring
put it this way, there has been nothing I can't do on the surge that my bro can do on his stinky, but I'm a bit more worked, battered and bruised from the trail buzz at the end of the day.... Tbh though, that's what I love... Makes you feel like you've achieved something.
Guess I'm just looking for a bike to soak some bumps up when my knee gets a tad sore hehe. But we have ridden every day for 5 days now so I'm not surprised I'm sore!! Got another 7 days to go, 5 of which are definately riding
(plus it's a bloody good excuse for a new bike )0 -
Ha ha I see your point you do feel pretty battered and bruised after a day on the hardtail, bought myself an older mini dh, it's nice but the hardtail still feels better.0
-
i think you should stick to the hardtail. fs bikes are no better and if you can do everything on a ht whats the point in fs?0
-
Well that's my reasoning behind taking one for a test ride/hire.
As long as it's not as heavy as my bro's stinky I don't mind lol!0 -
id be suprised if its as heavy as your hardtail!!0
-
-
well its built to be nails not light eh.
i look forward to seeing what you think of the orange when you try it.0 -
New development... Saw a trek remedy 9 today. Hehehe.
trying a remedy 8 on monday or tuesday instead of the orange... Feel I could use a more "all round" bike than another freeride based bike.
Spec is pretty awesome, SRAM xo and shimano xtr components, plus cheaper than the orange. Seems like it'd be great for some longer distance epics0 -
they are superbly specced and meant to be sooper dooper rides. i cant believe how good looking treks are these days too.
i look forward to the next ht Vs fs thread!!0 -
Yep they do look great. Only saw one by accident, bro was trying to convince me I needed a session DH lol!
It's the bike doddy was using for the freeride without fear feature so it's plenty strong enough. Plus I've read the 17 inch weighs around the 29lb mark which sounds about right for what I want.
Looking forward to try it out.... Hoping it's 30 quid for the day, if it's 50 quid I'm afraid it'll be a carpark trundle0 -
you'll be wanting bigger than a 17 i would wager but the increased size shouldnt weigh too much extra, itll more than likely be under 30llbs which in my experience is plenty light for actually riding around on but tough enough to give a bit of stick. my enduro is a whisker under 30lbs with pedals.
are you looking at getting an 8 or 9?
it seems a bit of a rip to have to pay for a test ride at all, would the fee be taken off of the price of the bike if you decide to buy? you can test any bike at thetford (inc some very gucci genius bikes) for 15 quid iirc. basicly the price of a bike hire, and the fee is removed from the overall price.
but the rules is the rules i spose, you can figure out if the bike fits on a car park trundle but itll be hard to tell if the bike is what you want.0 -
Well, I'm actually looking at hiring the remedy 8 for a full days thrash at glentress. I found a nearby bike shop that has every size of the remedy 8 in to hire for a days blast. £30 doesn't seem to bad to me...
I can take the bike out inthe carpark for as long as I like for free, but that's obviously not the same.
I wouldn't be buying a bike from them, but it will be good to see how the bike tackles terrain I've blasted down on the current bike.
Definately looking at a 9. Even though I'm not impressed with the fragility of the SRAM xo carbon mech, it wouldn't bother me to switch it out for a SRAM x9 if it did ever break.
Works out about 300 quid cheaper than an orange too....0 -
if i ever damage the x0 on the enduro it will be getting replaced with x9, feels exactly the same but at a comparative fraction of the cost.0

Bad news chaps
can't test ride one
for starters, it's fifty quid for a day  secondly, the down tube is so fat and beefy, it won't fit on the bike rack
however I did have a trundle.
I'm getting one when I get back figure it's about time I have a FS in the fleet so that when the ht v fs thread arises, I will have a proper argument as to why my ht is better lmao.
can't decide between a 17 or 19 though, so I'll have another go when I get home. Will be buying from Evans cycles eventually so I'm hoping I can get a try on both frame sizes again.(will be going back to the shop here again though for another sit...)
just waiting for my house rent deposit to come thru the door (from the Uni house) an I can make the order0 -
thought id stick in my 2 pence worth as i own a Remedy! Trying to get a test ride of one is nigh on impossible (or actually impossible in my case) Very few shops stock them and one shop tried to get Trek to send a demo bike to them so i could try it, but Trek have none left due to the 2010 version coming out. i took a massive leap of faith based on the reviews id seen for it and got one bought and ordered without even seeing one in the flesh, let alone riding it!
its taken a while, and i havent fallen fully in love with it yet as ive still got a couple of bits to sort on it. i swapped the nevegals out straight away for some super tacky highrollers, and that ruined my first ride on it as they created so much friction and drag i just couldnt get any speed up. i also needed a few rides to get the riding position sorted, and ive only just swapped the spring out for a soft. only thing left to sort is my front brake as its ballsed, but i am probably buying a hope M6 off a friend tomorrow, which when sorted, i will fall fully in love with it, im 100% sure.
ive still been unable to let fully rip on it due to tyres/brakes/bad back but ive sorted 2 of these and will be sorting the 3rd tomorrow and after that i will be going to cwm carn and afan to give it a proper rag!
with the forks wound down it climbs very comfortabley, and with the forks unwound it descends rather fast! i have a medium remedy 7 and it weighs in at 29lbs. its in the "your rides" forum if you want to take a gander!Trek Remedy 7 2009
