I`ve got them on the Meta and TBH I thought they were going to be the one thing on the bike that i`d want to change. How wrong was I, they are fantastic brakes. It took me a little while to adjust to the power and modulation but once i had a few miles under my belt with them I was happy as larry.

They are in a different league to the Hope Mono Mini`s I have on the Rock Lobster.

Not used below -5 yet so can`t comment on that :D

I can't compare with much else, but mine have suited me perfectly, good power and huge control. Slight faff to bleed, and one of the rear pistons was sticky right from the box and needed some TLC, so not delighted about that. And one of the adjusters doesn't seem to do anything at all. But that aside, they've been ace, very pleased with them.

good but fail to bite sometimes. think they might need some more oil in them.

if i adjust the lever in ther isnt enough leverage to stop me dead

Mmm, that wants some attention, sounds like they need bled tbh.

I had to bleed my back brake after around 4 months. Been sweet ever since though.

I reverse bled mine from the caliper and it was "simplez", its now running on Citroen mineral oil.

    Thanks guys.

Did they feel a bit squishy in the begining.

I have only had mine for an hour of riding.

Do they tighten up or should they go about 2cm from my grips?

    Thanks again

Can`t really remember but I think they were pretty tight from when i picked the bike up.

i had an xt disc on my old bike, they were really good, better than my old hope mini. then i swapped the resin pads for some clarks sintered and my word! the power was phenomenal! only bled them after over a year because the performance detirorated quite a lot but it turned out it was contaminated pads so it prob could have gone another year with out a bleed. i now have juicy 5's on my new bike and the performance is no where near as good :(

  • I had a pair and they fent great/solid at a standstill, but simply did not have the power on the trail. As I'm 15 stone, you might find different if you are lighter. However, I did find that others had the same experience.

If they work for you, rag that bike and havea good time.

Similar weight when kitted up here, I found them fantastic. The biggest bonus for me is how easy they are to bleed, you can keep air out of the system by tying back the lever overnight so it floats up into the reservoir as well. Plenty strong enough for me with loads of modulation.

I have found that, from brand new, every set of Shimano brakes I've ever have had needed bleeding and fiddling with. Grr! :) As I say though, it's a very, very easy process. At a push you don't even need a syringe, just zip tie the lever back as I mentioned, make sure the hose goes downwards all the way to the caliper, leave them overnight, then top up with mineral oil in the morning.

Contrary to what magazines said, I much prefered them to SLX to be honest, I prefered the feel of the units, weight, rotors and they seemed to need fiddling with far less.

I was up in the hills at -9 at one point last winter... And that's just central belt, head up to the highlands and you'll find proper winter. (that was with similiar mineral oil brakes, Tektro Auriga Pro, they worked OK)

Was out last November with a couple of guys from here and the windchill took the temperature well below -5. We had drivetrains and cables freeze solid. My XT's were fine though. Won them with a full XT groupset, wouldn't have considered them otherwise. Had to build them up myself but they've been fine. Really firm with the way I've set them up, much better than my Juicy 7s (or at least they were until I plucked up the courage to bleed the 7s properly). Really like them now and the fact they run on mineral oil is a major bonus in my mind, much better than messing around with DOT 5.
It's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.

    I've bought a new bike....ouch - result
    Can I buy a new bike?...No - no result

I have the older M760 Xt brakes on my bike.I keep think about replacing them with something more powerful, but they are so reliable and easy to live with, they are staying until I can afford some newer XT M770s.

Finally got an hour or two.

So taking the bike to castle coch.

We will see if the squishy goes away, as the levers go quite low, and I would have thought, if you touch then about a cm then they would stop, but I really got to press down.

Will report back, if not they are going back to the LBS as dont think they should have so much play.

Thanks guys, I am glad I chose the 2009 XT brakes they do look nice and they feel like good material was used.

Well took it out of the taff.

They do have a bit of play, but I seem to like it.

They are not just touch slightly and they brake, which is nice.

God they are so powerfull, a lot nicer than my magura louise brakes.

    Thanks guys.
