hi there, having built my road bike, I'm now too protectgive of it to use it on a daily basis, so now to build my beater.

I want to keep it minimal so I want to have bull horns with bar end brake lever on the right controlling the front wheel and a bar end shifter on the left controlling the mech for a triple front mech.
Will obviously need a fixed rear mech to keep chain tension.
Has anyone tried this, will \i get into trouble with the cops for only having a single brake?

PS I'm also after the bar and shifter and lever \9see my other post,
Thanks

If it has a freewheel you need a front and rear brake, for a fixed wheel front only.

I can't believe you've just admitted this on a public forum. I have requested your IP address and your journeys will be monitored.

You must be joking, I've only got one break on my CAAD9 at the moment, is fine, not in the wet though, I never use my rear anyway.

It does say in the CTC that apparently 2 breaks are required by law

But I'd think the police would not do anything if you had one break, but I dont understand the article 100%, it says something about using feet or even teeth.

It'd be amusing to be followed by police though

I'm both joking and a bit odd, apparently.

    Hey

The OP wasn't actually me (simon) it was my friend who forgot that he hadn't actually logged in as himself (twm.bwen).

Personally i think its daft what hes doing but he'll do it anyway,

The one time a brake cable has snapped while riding I was very pleased to have a second brake... but hey, it's your life :D

Legalities aside, why not run a rear mech and a single chainring? If you want simplicity, just ride fixed
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

Thats the point of only needing 1 brake if it's fixed though right? Because the pedals = brake no 2

    Here it is:

A lot of words are nevertheless devoted to wheels that cannot rotate independently of the pedals (i.e. no freewheel), the effect of which is that a fixed wheel drive counts as a braking system – on that wheel or wheels.

Simon is correct that I was the OP.

Shame you've not expressed your opinion to my face.

This can not be a fixed wheel bike so is totaly illegal and bl**dy dangerous. Do not even consider it.

Is it not possible to bastardise a brake setup so that the one lever controls both calipers?

You'd be better off having a single chainring and a rear mech to change, perhaps 5 or 7 gears so as to not kink the chainline too much.

You'd also be better off generally if you want simplicity to set up a fixed wheel bike, then you'd be cool. like me.

What's the point of asking for advice if you're going to throw your toys out of the pram if anyone disagrees with you?
