If you could have more than your fair share of one of these, which would it be?

I think I would plump for luck.

    Intelligence.

If you're smart and hard working wealth comes naturally.

I tend to find the most succesful people make their own luck.

How about Charisma? With charisma you can win people over so you won't need the intelligence or money, as you could become a con artist. You might need some luck to get away with it though.
I have nothing more to say on the matter.

Living with teacher parents, I disagree that the wealth comes naturally from hard work and intelligence. I also know of plenty of other intelligent people who work hard but, compared to others, don't really get the wealth. Of course this is all relative, using a modern Western country to judge, and compared to the vast majority of people who have ever lived we lead a life of luxury.

I'll go for luck - as in being lucky enough to be born into the right family. I have a degree but I'll be the first to admit that things like this are very much a question of birth. Too many of my schoolmates were actively discouraged from working hard at school by their parents, and I was therefore born with what I see as a massive advantage over them.

Intelligence every time, wealth will follow, and there is no such thing as luck.

Ther are 4 things that affect everything we do.

    1 - Good planning
    2 - Bad planning
    3 - Good coincidence
    4 - Bad coincidence

What people call luck is actuallly really coincidence, the most successful people rely on good planning with a little bit of good coincidence.

I feel I have done OK over the past 20 years, and this way of thinking has been fairly successful for me. Planning works, and always assume you can alter the outcome of most situations to ensure you come out on top.

It has to be wealth since you can then hire the intelligent people. Luck is just chance/right place, right time and the rich leave little to chance. However.....if I was wealthy, I'd prefer good wealth eg using the money philanthropically as opposed to Paris Hilton wealth. Good health is also a big plus. No point in being rich, clever, lucky if you have Motor Neurone or MS (unless you can come up with a cure by being intelligent or hiring the boffins.
    M.Rushton
  • Is it not a question of good luck you don't have MS or motor neurone disease?

You could pehaps gain your wealth by having a horrid accident and getting compo. Not the best way to aquire wealth.

Inetellegence is great, we all benefit from it. But IMHO good fortune is invaluable.

    Intelligence is over-rated.

I'd go for wealth on this one... that's why most people opt for intelligence & luck anyway (to get rich).

Not one of the choices, to cut a long story short, my 8 year old daughter has just had an awful time away, became extremely homesick and boy, did I miss her. I went and brought her home early after giving the people who were supposed to be looking after her a piece of my mind. For that and lots of other reasons, I choose 'family'.

Having a good family is luck.

I remember my mates wife having a baby, he's had the "luck" to be born into a loving caring family.

The baby across the ward had a mother who was a heroin addict and dad was similar.

Which child would you think has the best chance of success in life.

In life intelligence counts for very little in most cases.

    Everyone needs luck.

You've missed my point. Having well behaved, loving children isn't luck, it's how I've/we've brought them up. It may be lucky who the child is born too but it's not luck to have them that way.

I'd have to go for wealth so i could afford to send my 2 boys with Aspergers to the excellent school we want them to go to. feel guilty at the moment 'cos if we re-mortgaged we could afford for one but not two.

    Wealth it is.

Yes, seriously. Their parents actually told them not to bother with working at school. Barely believable but true.

For me? Not one of the choices but I'd go for "happiness". Neither wealth, intelligence nor luck guarantees that (although, with wealth at least you can be miserable in comfort).

If I had to choose, I guess it would have to be luck (good luck, to be specific), because having a miserable life would seem to me to be bad luck. And if you're happy, then what does it really matter how intelligent or how wealthy you are?
