Town-centre parking

Here in Woking there is now cycle parking everywhere, I think a side-effect of all the 'Cycle Town' dosh. But a short ride away in the next borough, in Guildford, there are practically none. There are about four stands outside the Grammar School, and a few more on North Street, and that's about it. There aren't even any good lamp posts for locking bikes to.

Meanwhile car parking spots are outside pretty much every shop.

Although funnily enough the bike parking in Woking (over a hundred stands) is well-used, and the tiny number in Guildford don't seem to be.

Is this fairly typical?

  • I think its probably because if you go to Guildford you think you wont be able to place your bike in a safe spot so you dont cycle there . Clearly Woking is working!!

    Yes I think so.

Though Guildford is a bit hilly, the £2m Woking council received to spend on upgrading facilities is clearly increasing the number of cyclists quite massively.
