Got back into mountain biking this year and lovin it... been riding singletrack in local woods mainly with a few trips to Learnie thrown in. Plan to move onto Golspie and Laggan next, now the fitness and confidence have grown.
Next spring I was going to organise a trip for a handfull of relative newbies to Glentress. I was hoping you would share some of your stories and opions on best places to stay, B&B/ camping.. whatever... which pubs to check out down that way...you get the idea.
Looking to get a good mix of trials during the day and good craic and partying at night.
All the best....

We went on a biking holiday to Glentress for our honeymoon, and returned a year later for our anniversary. We stayed at Glede Knowe just down the road in Innerleithen, and it's absolutely fantastic.
In Peebles, the Indian is good (The Prince of India), but you do need to book as sometimes they're pretty rammed. The Chinese (The Mandarin Garden) doesn't look like much, but the food's pretty good. The Glentress Hotel does ruddy great food! The Peebles' fish bar is nice, but does deep-fried pizza, which is inherently wrong.0 -
Peebles and Innerleithen are lovely wee towns but there is no partying there, possibly by law. The average age of the residents is 87, and that's only including the ones who aren't undead.
If you want some decent nights out, probably best to stay in edinburgh and "commute", it's not far.Uncompromising extremist0 -
explain to me what a deep fried pizza is ?yeehaamcgee wrote:
That's like saying i want a door for my car that doesn't meet the roof, because I once had the wind blow it shut when I was getting in, and I had my head squished between, well, the door and the roof.0 -
It is exactly what it says on the tin Don't tell me you've never had a pizza and said "This is missing something, a certain je ne sais qua... I know! MORE FAT! And extra lumpy bits!"
It's a bit like the scotch egg... Someone looked at an egg and said "Well, this is alright, but it'd be better if it was more like a pork pie"Uncompromising extremist0 -
