im looking at taking a day out biking somewhere in the next few weeks, i live in the east midlands but dont mind travelling anywhere apart from scotland really.
ive been mountain biking for around 6 months but the only real off road stuff ive been doing is local footbaths/bridalways etc. and ive been to chicksands a few times, i have basic off road skills but i dont have the skills to make a whole trail flow with speed etc. yet.
So im looking for somewhere i can go for a day to practice my skills on some not to difficult trails and hopefully somewhere thats not to busy and i`l get in the way (probably be going mid week so guess this wont be so much of a problem.
Cant decide whether to go to a purpose build trail centre or somewhere like the peak district. anyone have any suggestions on a place/trail that will meet my needs ?

Sherwood Pines for local - spend some time playing on the 'downhill' section

Lllandegla is pretty easy, and despite moans from some can be great fun.

+1 for Cannock - I took my 10 yr old cousin there when he had just got into MTB and he had a great time and as the trail is not too difficult it really helped his confidence.

Go to wales mate, you are not far from some great trails,

FTD at cannock is a bit basic but good to build some skills on, get across the border and descover some rocks and roots!

Llandegla is a good place to start, or if you're fit, then the Marin trail (although not one of my favourites). Coed y Brenin requires some experience, especially as falling off some sections could have very dire consequences.

Further south, you have plenty of XC routes, most of which are do-able. I'd say that for most centres, fitness is going to be a bigger issue than bike handling.
