After clocking up about 6 months worth of use on a race bike I got from a freind for pence (m-trax 600r) I've got the bug and gone and ugraded to a Cube Aerial which should be here tomorrow!!! :D

This has presented a small dilema though. The bike comes with no pedals so I decided to try some clipless for the first time (ordered Keo Easy). Now have to get shoes too! Anyone know where to get decent and v cheap shoes or have any size 12's for sale? I have no intention of paying top end Sidi etc money

I intend to fit clipless set-up to old bike for a week or so as I don't want to drop new wheels so all newbie tips welcome too.

Cheers

  • i have the dhb ones from wiggle, they are great, and i also have the same bike and pedals as you :D back to the shoes, they are comfy, £45 and if anything like the mountainbike ones they ;last a long time( i have had mine a year and they are still almost perfect)
, i think they do the a size 12 as well, even though all the sizing is europian.

Chainreactioncycles.co.uk are doing some very cheap shoes at the moment. In my (limited) experience road shoes are always a size smaller than they say they are, so I would recommend getting a size 13 (EDIT: Euro 49?) to try on first. They seem to have quite a few left in that size, actually.

As for what ones are good, I couldn't really say; but I tend to think that anything that's being sold for half its RRP probably has something going for it!

  • I just got these:

Amazing for £50, much better than these ones I had

There are lots of Shimano ones for £30-£40 that are 50% off, good value for money!
  • Damn, I just bought those Diadora ones!! Still, only paid £35 quid- is that a good price or are they not even worth that?

I've found the entry level Specialized shoes to be pretty good.
  • Have a look round some loocal bike shops. I bought a brand new pair of Shimanos for £30, size 13 having shopped around a bit.

I'll second that, I've got them too and in size 12. They don't give you any hotspots after long rides, are comfy and you get good airflow through them.

If anyone was thinking of getting them without trying them, I'm actually a size 11 in shoes/trainers, but found my toes really pushing against the end of a Specialized size 11, tried 11.5 still too small had to go for 12.
