Looking for riding buddies at Glyncorrwg

I moved here about 2 years ago from Bath and love riding the trails of Glyncorrwg, even if its just a quick loop of 'Jetlag'!! Although solo rides are starting to get a little lonesome - just wondered if anyone else wanted to meet up for a relaxed ride sometime?

I'm not too great on the ups - I usually walk the steepest bits but then love ragging it on the downs. I'm an 'average' rider i reckon but usually keep my wheels on the ground! I'm 25 and semi-fit!

...Let me know!!

    Am I missing something.

That website does have riding things on there and clubs?

Dont understand what he did wrong, but I am not that up on spamming and what it means.

It means that pretty much any time a topic about mountain biking in wales crops up, somebody from that site chimes in immediately "hey, look at our site" which means we get NO useful topics on here at all.

i go there a couple times per month-what do you mean by semi fit?
what kinda pace do you ride at-either how long do you take to complete the trails or average speed?
no point if we ride at compltely different speeds, it is a bit boring riding on my own sometimes tho, although i mainly go with friends sometimes i ride on my tod when no-one is available

what bike you roll on dude?

    Oh I see.

But you got to be honest, he has better chance of finding welsh riding buddies on that site.

On here there is lots of scottish and english rides, but not to many welsh.

But its not something I look for, I enjoy going out by myself, dont hold anyone up or vise versa.

Thanks for the explantion, did not realise they did that.

Because I'm sick and tired of them coming on this forum to tell people to go to another (their) forum.
If they know some information, just share it. Keeping all Wales related stuff on another site is retarded.
I'd rather discuss things here than join a cliqueish knobs who seem to think that the only place fit for discussion of trails is their place - and that you're either with them, or don;t exist.

Does MBwales have a forum? it has blogs of the writer. as far as i thought it is a site with allt he marked trails in wales on it and how to get there so on with all the welsh organised events.

So i think pointing people there for further information is a good idea.

im doing the Brechfra enduro this wkend

i think we should start an "Afan riding meet up" topic on here

people can just post what time they are riding and a meeting place, then who ever turns up will ride,

i only ride there every few weeks at the moment, been riding a bit further afield a lot recently cos been off work. i ride cwmcarn most weeks tho cos its just down the road

i took a huge crash today on the section with all the stumps before the energy section
it was wet slimy and my glasses were misted up (ther my excuses lol) yet i continued to pedal my arse off with my gay spd's (my flats are broke) across the rough stuff to the point i was struggling to make the normally easy turns, i drifted wide and the pedal slammed into a stump, the bike stopped dead and i took flight over the handle bars and bounced along the ground for a couple metres. couple bumps and grazes and tweaked my wrist, i got straight back up laughed and said" that was a good one shame no one saw it lol"
that was on the 1st part of the W2

the onto the Wall section and the last fun descent before it gets really quick just after the last switch back my front tyre blew out (aint had a blow out in ages.(the pain from my crash started setting in as the adrenilne wore off)
so i changed that carried on the 100 yards later im back at full speed, i took off soomething a rock or whatever it was looked like a good take off so i pumped up it , anyway i landed and wush, the f**kingback tyre blew out, possibly a patch had blown off on this one, aint looked yet.
but what a nightmare, i had to walk the last 2miles back to the carpark cos only had one spare tube. im gonna start taking two around afan cos thats twice in a row now i have had punctures there.
i was gonna do the Penhydd trail aswell today as my challenge to do all 3 but it wasnt to be, and i took the W2 short cut after i crashed. next time i will do all 3 trails properly and hopefully in better conditions

    for now trail
you may have got the better of me today, but this was merely a battle- the war is far from over, i shall be back to conquor your ass!!!!!!!!!

I might be interested in riding up there. What and how many trails are you thinking of doing and what time?

Would be up for riding more than 1 trail, but would prefere to do them without a break in between.

was thinking around 10:30- 11 ish start, i live in Newport so its a bit of a drive, ile try to leave by 9. at the afan centre not Glyn corwg
i was going to do whytes level and the wall in one go (prob av a banan and bicuit snack half way round), then have a sandwich and do the Penhydd trail.
ile probably be riding in flats so wont be going very quick, i havent been having much luck with spd's.

    sound ok?
    anyone else wanna come?

Hate to be cheeky, especially to someone I've never met before. If you leave at 9 then you should be there by 10 easy. This would suit me better, as I have a few other things to do in the afternoon/evening.

I drive a black Ford Focus, not sure whether I'll be on hard tail or bouncy yet. As for the flat pedals, I ride with them 90% of the time and will be on them tomorrow.

    Will send you pm

  • To the OP, you could join singletrack mind mtb club, we are based at Afan.

    www.singletrackmind.org.uk

I have directed people to mtb-wales.com many times and will continue to do so, it is up to the reader to follow the link or not.

giving someone the option for more information is better than giving them none.

Many people give links to park tools, sheldon brown etc. so people can get the best information without someone having to repeat the information. the moderators do this on this site via the 'sticky' threads, it helps people find the info they need easier.

I use several sites, depending on my mood, what's being discussed and even the weather.
