Setback Seatpost?

I am 6ft3in tall with long limbs and I'm finding that I have to perch on the back of my seat when I'm in XC mode on my large-framed Cannondale Prophet. Pedalling doesn't seem natural if I don't. The saddle is already at the end of the rails, so I was thinking about a setback seatpost,

Does anyone have an opinion/suggestion. What would the side effects of a setback post? Lighter front end?

Cannondale Prophet 1 2009
Specialized Hard Rock Pro 2005 (much modified)

  • You'd probably struggle to keep the front end down on a technical climb - every root would have you popping wheelies, I expect.

I take it your frame is the right size for you? :?
  • I had this on a '08 Stumpjumper after a warranty replacement on the '07 version. The frame was so cramped so I got a Thomson Layback. (ChainReaction) Fantastic poast and an easy fix.

It can also cause problems with the hamstrings and the back of the knee if you are two far behind the cranks.
You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.

You will effectively slacken your seat angle, does the prophet come with a zero setback as standard?

I wouldn't hesitate to try it. You can get a servicable ally post for 20 quid (probably a lot less) and then get the bling version of your choice once you have the location set up properly.

what stem length do you have?

Theyy seem to work well on some bikes like my old Giant Reign - try picking a used one up on bike radar classifieds or Ebay.

What size seatpost do you have ? I run a set back on my Salsa & have a spare one I'd sell cheap.
It's a 400mm 31.6mm 6061 Syncros Derived (0 & 25mm set back depending on which way you flip the clamp).
I only ran it for a week whilst I was waiting on delivery of a Ritchey WCS Carbon setback.
