hello
im after some new pads for my xt disk brakes. i was just wondering what the difference is in all the compounds the pads come in. im currently looking at resin or sintered pads. i ride AM and are planning on going to ride hellyvellyn at the weekend so would need good stopping power but again dont want to be replacing them in a week as there stupdily over priced.
thanks for any help

resin (organic) dry conditions.
sintered wet or hard wearing conditions."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I have just fitted a set only done 2 rides on them so no feedback on how long they last but they feel nice hard to put it into words but they feel smooth with no grabbiness you sometimes get with resin and no feeling like they dont work till you have hammered them a couple of times you sometimes get with sinteredFig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0 -
would kevlar pads work ok with my *resin only* rotors?
quite like the look (and price) of those,lol0 -

Should be fine they are resin pads with kevlar fibres in the pad material. Dont know if its all sales patter but they certainly work ok
I used to have some Shimano resin only rotors and they worked fine with sintered pads they just went a pretty blue colour after some hard brakingFig rolls: proof that god loves cyclists and that she wants us to do another lap0 -

so if i try these pads and they are useless superstar pads will just take them back?

thanks again0 -
I use superstar sintered pads and they're pretty good (the Hayes Stroker and Formula Oro ones anyway). Last ages and stop pretty well so can't fault them for the price, def trying the kevlar ones next time though.0

They seem to work out cheaper buying through their eBay store. Although I haven't seen the XT Kevlar listed.Northwind wrote: It's like I covered it in superglue and rode it through ebay.0

I've used SS sintered in my Juicy Ultimates for over 18 months...brilliant.I decided to try SS Kevlar and am really disappointed.Good in the dry.Simply don't work when wet, they just squeal, the loss of power is frightening. So after 1 dry and 2 wet rides i'm taking them out and going back to sintered 8)0
